Join me for a tour of Maidenhead Aquatics Sheffield, a massive UK aquarium shop packed with tropical fish, impressive display tanks, and everything from tiny tetras to black diamond stingrays.

This branch is roughly four times the size of my local Maidenhead Aquatics, so there’s plenty to explore as I share the fish that caught my eye, some of the prices during my visit, and my thoughts as someone who keeps a room full of aquariums.

We start with the display tanks near the entrance, including a planted discus aquarium and a huge island-style aquascape that I would love to have space for at home.

The centrepiece display has a beautiful mix of fish and plants, with the red line barbs standing out as they move around the hardscape.

Most of the tour focuses on the tropical fish section, which has a much broader selection than I usually find locally.

There are familiar favourites like cardinal tetras, ember tetras, honey gourami, and pygmy corydoras alongside fish that I don’t often get the opportunity to see in person.

Honey gourami are my favourite fish, so it was good to see plenty available, including females, which have sometimes been difficult to find in my area.

The pygmy corydoras were another highlight at £3 each during this visit, while the electric blue rams, gold tiger barbs, and snow white guppies all gave me ideas for future tanks.

If you enjoy plecos, there are several interesting species throughout the video, including £150 zebra plecos, leopard frog plecos, green phantom plecos, and sultan plecos.

I also take a look at sparkling gourami, black tiger dario, pencilfish, blue-eyed rainbowfish, wild-type bettas, and several varieties of Endler guppies.

Along the way, I share where my own experience influences what I would consider keeping, including why I enjoy honey gourami and Endlers, and why some other fish wouldn’t suit my planted tanks.

There are also larger and more unusual fish to see, including puffers, severums, Frontosa cichlids, and a black diamond stingray pond.

The hairy puffer was a particular source of entertainment for my girlfriend, while the stingrays were beautiful to watch.

After the tropical section, we explore the temperate and coldwater fish, including Medaka rice fish, goldfish, axolotls, and koi, before looking at the aquarium kits, hardscape, and live plants.

The shop is mainly about its fish selection, with smaller hardscape and plant sections, but there are still interesting pieces of wood, planted display ideas, and aquarium equipment to browse.

I filmed this tour on my phone, and some of the darker tanks were difficult to capture, so a few of the fish looked much more colourful in person than they appear on camera.

This is a relaxed walk around the shop with my personal observations, rather than a care guide for every species shown.

Despite the huge selection, we actually left without buying anything because the celestial pearl danios and Tetra Whisper air pump we had gone for weren’t available.

There was still plenty to enjoy, though, and more than a few fish were added to my future wish list!
