For the record about the WW1 mine, the night before the explosion was detonated the chief of staff of the army, general Sir Charles Harington, allegedly said, "Gentlemen, I don’t know whether we are going to make history tomorrow, but at any rate we shall change geography".

I am from krieg and I’m digging a trench, diggy diggy trench, digging a trench.
-Death Korps engineer working chant

the siege of vrax series never ends. it just tunnels under the upload schedule to pop up when least expected.

12:57 "virtually regardless of rank or position"... I'm imagining Marshall Kagori showing up on planet and being handed an entrenching shovel, and he just takes it like a boss and wears it like a badge of honor.

“Look buddy, I’m an engineer, that means I solve problems, not problems like what is beauty, problems like, how am I supposed to stop some big, mean, greenskin mother-hubber from tearing me a superfluous new beehive? Answer: Use a Bolter. And if that don’t work? Use more Bolter.”

I can only imagine how sad a kriegsman must be to fix bayonets, and not affix bayonets.

From a civil engineering background, I disagree on rock being your biggest hurdle. The biggest pain in any large scale earthworks project is always water. In particular stormwater drainage, though a high water table also presents a challenge usually better left avoided even if you have to go far out of your way to do so.

I love how the death corps have such depth they cover the engineers the way almost no force is Scifi does. As a Combat Engineer I appreciate this very much.

Wait the biggest export is not war-shovels?
Or is it like "buy 3000 shovels, get a battalion of gas masked emperor botherers for free"

Anyone interested in tunnel fighting should watch "Beneath Hill 60" a movie about the Australian Tunnelers in WWI. It's actually a really good example of how it was all done.

After seeing the movie 1917, I really got an appreciation for what trench warfare REALLY entailed, and the engineering it would take to pull it off.  Watching this video after that really puts it under context.

Return of the Krieger's, shovel of terror: part 2.

Now in session!

All praise the Arch!

The scale of this insanity is why I love 40k. The enormous waste of everything is very very pleasing

"I felt a great disturbance in the Warp, as if millions of gasmasks suddenly cried out in joy and suddenly started digging."

i feel real bad for that ogryn buddy getting churned up by the breaching drill, he doesent know chaos is bad he just follows along and gets the cool tatoos everyone else is, and now his hands (and very soon the rest of him) are being made mulch, truly grimdark

Regardless...as an ex-combat engineer I tell you this: artillery and infantry may be the king and queen of battle, but its the engineers those that make sure the royal couple doesnt get hurt.

"Blood, sweat and tears."

No no, in the Korps there's only blood and sweat, the tears are killed in boot camp.

Just finished rewatching the Vraks series and was thinking about the Krieg Engineers! lovely! Now to enjoy with my morning coffee ;)

During the US Civil War there was an interesting episode where a siege had turned into trench warfare, and it just so happened that a certain regiment of soldiers was primarily drawn from a Pennsylvanian Coal Mining town. They dug beneath the enemy trench, and went completely undetected until the moment when they detonated a remarkable amount of gunpowder blasting a massive hole in the enemy trench. The operation nearly went horribly wrong when the first regiment sent into the breach marched straight into the hole rather than splitting around it, but it was ultimately a success.

I am a simple Warhammer fan.
I see a Death Korp video.
I leave a like and grab the Gas Mask.
