I’ve been collecting comics for over 20 years and I’ve seen a lot of shops come and go and the ones that don’t make it are overpriced or poorly managed

Antique shops are definitely the worst when it comes to overpriced comics.

My son and I have visited a few comic shops in my hometown and they had NO PRICES on any of their long box comics. So, at the first location, I found a handful of comics & as I'm finding books, I ask the only worker there (who happens to be the owner) what were the prices. Each time he'd say, "We'll discuss when you're done." I thought that was odd, but I kept looking. He had a minimum of 30 tables with long boxes on and under the tables. When my son and I finally get to the front counter, he says, "Alrighty, now let me just go on ebay to see what they're going for..." I said, "You know what? I think I'll have to pass." The entire time my son and I were looking, he was playing a videogame on his phone. When we entered, he never said a word to us. Didn't ask if we needed help. No greeting. I've never heard of that way of selling before and I've been buying comics for over 40 years. Crazy. #Omega Red

i think alot of these mom and pop shops dont actually realize that people can buy comics online now, and most of the time alot cheaper than from their booths and stores.

To me the worst kind of dealer does not price their comics until you go to checkout. If your comics are not priced I walk out the door.

You're right! Bugets are tight now and days.  I honestly don't mind paying alittle bit over because a shop has to make money. But there is a big difference between helping each other out, and ripping someone off

The problem with my local comic book shops is that they go through everything they have and take out any key issues and just leave crap in the bins to look through 🤦

Both in a comic book store and a card games hobby shop I got kind of the opposite problem to what the comments are mostly saying. Having the clerk greet me I say I'll just be looking around and receive the usual "take your time and call if you need anything/when you are ready". Then the clerk proceeded to follow me back and forth in silence across the long wall. When I wanted to ask about something, the clerk would then react jumpy as if I was about to immediately ask to buy the items. After a couple visits I started reacting like "Do I REALLY wanna go in and look around? hmmmm"....

For some reason, comic shop owners are either really nice, or REALLY fucking crabby and basically seem to be pissed off the world they’re there. Absolutely ridiculous

I worked in a comic book shop for a while when I was younger.  I had some books that I was iffy on selling and so I wanted to put them on display at a high price in case I found someone who really wanted to have them.  My boss said "No way."  And the reason was that you did more damage by having a visible high price in the store, than any good you could do by selling it at that price, even if it were to happen.  Fifty people would be turned off by the high price, before one person would buy it, so it would hurt the store overall.  That's what people who overprice their products (whatever they are, not just comic books) fail to realize.  Great video!   You're totally right about everything that you said here!   :)

Exactly! If you put your prices way to high people is going to keep buying online. They are destroying their own business.
Great Omega Red giveaway, count me in

Every comic shop should have a 50 cent bin. Parents will let their kids buy multiples and hopefully it will make them consistent customers

I went to a shop, the place was a mess and there was just stuff on top on some of the comic boxes. I asked if I could move the stuff so I can look through the boxes. Owner looks at me and asked me why. I told him I wanted to look through his comics, he said he was not selling comics because he wants to re-price them all because people are ripping him off. Dude actually runs a comic shop, and wouldn't even let me look at the comics because he does not want to be ripped off.

Hate it when I find a spot and its ruined with overpriced books. Omega Red!

Comic book store owners: you aren't selling comic books, you're selling the experience. These people can buy everything you have on eBay or online, but they CHOSE to come into your store. Be friendly, host events, deals, offer your expertise and recommendations. That's what they're really there for, a sense of community around a hobby they're passionate about. If you can't do that you have no business being open.

I recently moved to Dubuque Iowa, and there IS ONE comic store. And they failed rule number one. No hello, no anything I can help you find? Have you been here before?

All I got was weird glances from Employees and what I gather were their friends.  Didn't spend one cent and will never go back. Everytime I drive by it I flip them off for good measure.

I like digging through boxes and finding books i didn't expect. Great video. Ty Omega Red

Dude, this is spot on. Stores don't sell any books then get desperate and end up selling them in bulk when they go out of business etc. That's great for a reseller like myself but not great for the hobby. Another thing to note is ever since the big covid boom people think their books are still worth gold. I just went to a garage sale and saw some of these same prices that you showed. At a garage sale! Like bro, garage sales is where you get rid of shit, not try to make your rent money for the month LOL

my golden rule is if i open the door and see walls of funkopops i close it and walk back to the car.  never not had a problem in one of those places.

It's been a while since I've bought comics but I remember antique shops were always hit or miss. I think some vendors automatically place a high price because its an "antique" shop and back in the day before wide spread internet access they were more successful at this tactic. When I acquired my Shadow #1 and Invincible Iron Man #1 from an antique mall I had to haggle some to get a decent price and this was just when eBay was starting out.

These days I wouldn't buy from a shop where the prices seem really off, especially on modern books. It almost looks like that first shop in your video just priced everything mint + some antique store premium.
