"GEC, Your guarantee", a trip down memory lane for me, I worked for GEC in the sixties and remember those components well. Thanks for the memory!

What a nice looking radio. Should go on for many more years, after your care and attention.

I did miss your voice, but I thought the video was excellent. This GEC radio reminds me of one that was repaired for an old gent in one of the most moving episodes of The Repair Shop I have ever seen. Thanks very much for this.

Truly master craftsmen. I hope you can pass your skills and knowledge down to younger people.

Nicely done sir! Amazing what is possible with some elbow work and a lifetime of knowledge.

Great thx from Austria 🇦🇹 ❤

That cleaned up very nicely indeed it is obviously it is made of good hard wearing materials. Lucky you had a set of brass inserts for the dials.

Great work!

I have one of these and have done much of what you have shown , the set  has quite durable coverings and respond well  better than others to stiff agitation ,  removing years of grime and nicotine staining .I always think it has a rather attractive ' Art-Deco ' look .Apart from aged capacitors being replaced , they have quality components that should keep going  for another 66 odd years !.For a simple restoration Rob , enjoyed the format but not for your more complex restorations !.

Great video! Really enjoyed!

Hi Rob, Thanks for the portable GEC radio restoration. It's a great result and to your VERY HIGH standards looks like the radio is just out of the TV and Radio shop. Eat your hart out Radio Rentals😂 RIP. When electronics was built to be serviced. PP9 battery not seen one in years! The jury is out on the silent restoration? But with very informative subtiles. Thanks Richard

As good as new. Nice one.

Great Work

Nice restoration. Shame the bands are slowly closing.
By the way I had one of these radios but could never find a replacement volume control.

Much prefer your narration to the background sounds of breathing and repairs

Interesting

The filming area works well but I miss the commentary.

Such great detail was taken when they made these radios. They don't make quality electronics like that these days.
You will see a G.E.C. Deluxe Twenty Three television in The Saint' s (Roger Moore) apartment. Season 1 Episode 3 "The Careful Terrorist". You will also see a Decca (unknown model) television in Nat Grandel's (Peter Dyneley) apartment. The ironic thing about this is the episode is set to be taking place in New York where these televisions would not work.

i have one same model, unfortunately a bit woodworm afflicted, and missing both knobs 😢 but it works perfectly electronically 'as is', all virgin inside, still got original electrolytic capacitors, and not going to change them 'just because' as no need...

The knob brights on these are concave, not convex. Not sure anyone will complain though!
