this channel is a gold mine.

that lowpass filter on the master, when you got rid of the creeping high end, it just locked the entire mix in. Its like you got rid of some annoying high end air sound that made the entire mix fall into some pocket. THe groove got better, the rythm felt tighter what the heck.

It's important to keep in mind that you're likey referencing mastered tracks which will affect you're compression processing as well as high an low pass filtering. The mixes you're referencing could have sounded different or had extra fluff in the low and top end that was cleaned up in the mastering process. This is still a good way to get professional sounding mixes but just keep that in mind

I stumbled onto this back when I was mixing music for toys and cards at Hallmark - we had to apply said filters, because the bit depth and capabilities of the tiny speakers were so limited. Then, I found I missed the “magnifying glass” of having those filters when it came to doing full range mixes, so I temporarily apply them during the process, as you did here. Works fantastically!

What’s crazy is listening on my cell phone and I can hear the difference between full range and cell phone eq. I also know that if I can’t hear the kick and bass on my cell phone then it needs work 🔥🔥🔥
