Playing Lt. Dan changed Gary Sinise's life forever. He became a HUGE advocate for veterans, started a foundation and formed a band that plays for troops all over the world. He has an amazing documentary.

Fun fact: Tom Hanks gave Forrest his specific accent because the boy actor who played young Forrest legit spoke like that, so Tom Hanks decided to give himself that accent for the character.

Forrest had a mother who loved him and constantly told him he's no different to anyone else. Jenny had a farther who sexually abused her and that made her feel different her whole life. She always ran away because she didn't feel she was good enough.

One of the greatest and most memorable performances in movie history. No one could have pulled this off like Tom Hanks did. Tom Hanks actually adopted the accent from the kid that played young Forrest. He said it was authentic

One thing that is often misssed is that Lt. Dan wife is vietnamese. He lived for war and fought in vietnam, and found love with a vietnamese girl. He made peace with himself and carried no hate !

Another good thing that came from this movie is Lt. Dan actor Gary Sinise has become a huge advocate for veterans and helped the lives of so many people.

When they were children, we see that Jenny prays to be turned into birds... while still with her abusive father... we later see how, as an adult, in a scene where she attempts suicide... Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" plays. A very strong parallel.

Jenny actually didn't wait a long time to tell Forrest about his son. Remember that he was running for more than 3 years right after she got pregnant, and this was in a time before mobile phones existed. As soon as Forrest was back home in Alabama, he got her letter. (In fact, unless I'm forgetting something, she may have even sent the letter a year or two previously and it was just waiting for him to get through his stack of accumulated mail on his return.)
