I just wanted to mention that there is no wolf in the make up of the Eurasian breed. They were originally a mix between the ChowChow, the Samoyed and the Keeshond and/or wolfspitz (inot a wolf hybrid). 🙂

Every place with a table is a vet until proven otherwise.

I think he has learned that when he freaks out the humans stop what they were doing. He was not allowed to with you.

You just taught a master class for grooming an anxious dog. I was a groomer, many years ago. A dog like this one is humungous challenge and you did a great job.

Friends of mine had an Eurasian for 13 years and brushed him every day with different brushes ! !! It is a necessity for that breed.

Onyx at the end
🐶“omg I feel so much better!”
👨‍💼”nice! Will you behave next time?”
🐶” absolutely not.”

Owners need to work with the dog on his triggers. Start brushing him for 10 minutes everyday. This is something only they can help him with.

I find it so funny that they can hold their heads out a window at 75 mph, but the blow dryer is the scariest thing they have ever had done to them.

This was excruciating to watch. I hope the owners appreciate how difficult this was for you AND the dog. For whatever reason, they have done him a huge disservice. At least they finally had him groomed. In the future, I hope they put the work in or find a way to better handle this poor dog.

I work at a vet and we do confidence clinics with nervous dogs. They book blocks of half hour slots and come in and start with lucky mats or ball pits just really fun things, then they will take a stethoscope out or a syringe with no needle. It's worked a treat on so many dogs, one used to refuse to walk in the door, now she loves it.

This was a super interesting groom to watch. His panicking in the beginning was clearly saying "I'm really scared and I have no idea what's happening!" and then as he slowly understood what was going on, it morphed more into a tantrum of "I don't like this so I'm gonna throw a fit!" and his visible confusion when his tantrums didn't work on you was funny to watch. I was shocked by how calm he was in the bath. So glad he was able to be cleaned.

That really was a 10 out of 10 groom. You deserve a medal. I hope his owners watch this groom video, and I also hope they start brushing him daily, and working on getting him more and more tolerant of brushing the spots he desn't like done. He needs the daily grooming to keep the shed hair from tangling in and catching dirt, dead skin , and pee. I hope they are extra appreciative of what you did. You're a treasure, Vanessa.

Drives me nuts, as a working breed owner, how people allow their pets to believe they are in charge. The more dominant, fearful, or aggressive they are, the more you stand your ground to show them they have to do what you say.

@juliasharp2857 11 months ago

This is definitely an owner problem. 100% They have set no boundaries with him.

Sorry but being on a waitlist for a breed that has high grooming needs and then not even brushing it for five years is awful. I know we always try to be kind and understanding of these owners, but both those owners looked perfectly capable of using a brush or showerhead! Being frightened of the vets is no excuse at all. The state of this dog is really upsetting.

@TheMentorOfMomos-p3e 11 months ago

I really understand that this dog had a very huge trauma at the vet as a puppy, but ONE bath in all his life??? Damn it that's just a disaster waiting to happen

@allieanderson85 5 months ago (edited)

17:13 “behaving a certain way gets him what he wants” = the owners have made no effort in having him trained by a professional dog trainer.

@mssdn8976 11 months ago

I put my puppy on my lap when I blow dried my own hair from day one of having her. I also brushed her even when she had a tiny puppy coat. Please don’t wait to start introducing these events if you adopt a puppy

i hope the owners read these comments. just because your first dog of the same breed behaved better, doesn’t mean you can give up with the second one at the first sign of bad behavior. these animals are very smart. you’re giving them too much control. take notes.
