Part 3 on Highway 5.
We left Villa Marina RV Park and rode 22 miles south to Rancho Nuevo Mazatlán, kilometer 32 on the San Felipe–Puertecitos road.
Still no shoulder, so we were on the highway. A little more traffic than farther north, but not much. The Sea of Cortez stays on your left the whole way. Desert hills on the right. A few campos, a lot of empty beach, and one unfinished house that looks like a castle.
A local gave us a ride down the sand in his beach cruiser and told us what the place is like when it isn’t this quiet. The next morning it was still just us, the water, and the wind.
Part 3 of biking Baja’s Highway 5, from Mexicali toward Puertecitos. No training. No real plan. Just two people on bikes.
Part 1: Mexicali to Río Hardy, 40.5 miles
Part 2: Campo las Cabañas to San Felipe to Villa Marina
