“My brother died recently. Ok, perfect”. Thanks, lady! Do you say that at funerals too?

Psychics are amazing bro. I used to one shot the whole kanto region with it. Being weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost type doesn't stop me from becoming a psychic

Oh boy! If a medium can do this, what can a large do?

Whenever I hear about psychics I immediately think of TWO specific moments on television
1. That one well known psychic telling a woman that her husband, a firefighter who went missing/died while helping in the aftermath of 9/11, was somewhere in WATER
2. An infamous news story where a psychic lady, who works with police sometimes, is shown a picture of a little girl and says that the girl was horribly assaulted and killed, but the interviewer IS THE LITTLE GIRL FROM THE PICTURE and was like “Well I’m not dead” and the psychic lady then leaves after being mercilessly called out on her scam

I love the idea that the "voices" some psychics here are just, basically, their thoughts and their powers are them misunderstanding how thinking works.

2:39 "My BIL died recently," "Perfect!" That's such a perfect example of the self-centeredness of mediums. They don't care at all about your grief, they're just happy they guessed close enough to pretend they were right.

Oh my god the child psychics show seems like they’re deliberately trying to give these kids psychosis. Genuinely horrible. I struggled with some obsessive-compulsive symptoms growing up surrounding bedtime anxieties, and that was without any adults straight up telling me that “yeah, Bad Thoughts DO give off ‘dark energy,’ and you WILL have a nightmare if you don’t flip your pillow over every time you have an unpleasant thought :))”

As someone with schizophrenia, the whole Psychic kids thing just sounds like untreated paranoid delusions

I'm kind of surprised Sylvia Browne wasn't mentioned. She told Amanda Berry's mother that her daughter was dead...while Amanda Berry watched from her prison. She had been kidnapped and held captive but was allowed to watch the Montel Williams show. She thought Sylvia Browne would tell her mother she's alive, but instead, Browne said she was dead. Amanda Berry's mother died before Amanda could escape.

There was an episode of Long Island Medium where she “channels” a woman who was murdered by her spouse for her sister and mother, only to “channel” said spouse. I mention this because the woman who was murdered was my neighbor.

"Are they psychics, or do they have intrusive thoughts?" is spot-on. I've got severe OCD, and as a kid I was half-convinced I DID have some kind of psychic powers or precognition... which was pretty scary when I thought I was predicting the deaths of myself and loved ones!! Still get intrusive thoughts like that as an adult, but I can at least recognize them for what they are!

When I was a kid, I was told I was a psychic and fully believed it for a lot of years. It really fucked with my anxiety (and possibly OCD). Telling a child that their intrusive thoughts are actually totally real psychic predictions and that some people can read their minds has some pretty bad long-term effects. l had frequent intrusive thoughts about people around me dying and thought I was being attacked by negative psychic spirits when I started experiencing panic attacks. I've gotten a lot of therapy and I'm not spiritual anymore but holy shit do not put this shit on your children...

okay but hypothetically if ghosts were real it'd be hilarious if they actively lied to mediums just to make them seem uncredible. If i was a ghost, that's what I would do. They're not, but still. I lolled.

Absolutely dying at the "Louisiana Voodoo Priestess" calling herself The White Serpent of all things! Like, girliepop, do you not know that that's an insult???

I took a class in college for gen ed that was a critical thinking class, and most of the subject matter was debunking psuedoscience. One of the class assignments was to attend the psychic convention in town and it was the most... icky and uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced.

Psychic tournament, but doesn't have them face off in psychokinetic combat where they throw things at each other with their minds.

Pathetic.

"Have you ever wondered if the dead can see you? Get in my car and I'll show you they can!" That is the most intimidating thing a medium has ever said.
