Sounds like your opinion. If it works for a person then its not wrong . If you're extending your bow arm at the same you're drawing with string hand then that is push pull. Cause you don't think it's correct form doesn't make it right only your opinion . There's no correct and wrong way to shoot a bow , it's what works best for the individual.

We learned the set-up differently and we use the word "push" differently. Perhaps our equipment is so different that differences are required. A push set-up is definitely required for a 180-200 lb pull longbow. Unless, I suppose, if one can do a one-handed pull-up just by pinching the bar with between one's middle and forefinger.

OMG… if there is no push, what happens now to Zirnsaks podcast? 😂 I agree. What you say makes a ton of sense…

Everything just semantics. Those who can do, those who can’t teach

semantics. your 'push' is part of your 'set'. you are still exerting a force on the riser...if not the bow would slam back into your face. analogy, pushing a car....most are going to push until their arms a straight, then continue the force exertion with the core/legs/posterior chain until the car starts rolling....are you no longer 'pushing' with your arms? you are still exerting a force...there is just no long 'motion'.   extension, expansion, rotation...everyone has a different phrase. just MHO

Hey Matt, my understand is that you do push but as you are pulling with your back should, at the same time and in the opposite rotation direction, both are actually cancelling the rotation of pulling you are referring to. Thanks for reading, Sorry for my english, I am French
Cheers

I guess my comment was so controversial it got flushed. Must say I 100% agree with this. It is just hold. The pull to even to me is to anchor. Then hold. I try to just glue to anchor and release from a static hold. Hey, it works for Dewayne Martin. The man is a statue at anchor and release until the arrow hits the target.

I was under the impression that push pull was until you got set as if you are starting low you are drawing to the target at  the same time you are pushing and pulling till you hit the target and you are set then release   but my arm usually is not stiff like when you raise your arm unless im shooting recurve but i push to set up usually but i get what you are saying

This is such a good video. Ive been using a grip trigger for years and every time when I go back to pushing to click it off, my shots group to the left and I tend to have a sore bow shoulder after shooting. I've switched to pulling to click the trigger, which eliminates the left groups but does make the hold take longer.

Thank you for this video. I have learned something new here and also from listening to your appearance on "The Push" podcast where you talk about why and how weights should be added to the riser.

Full disclaimer: I do not shoot Barebow or Oly. I only shoot KTBs - Korean Traditional Bows (modern laminate bows). I am not a coach. I speak of my experience as a noob only.

I shoot with elbow bent and push the bow against the pull from the draw hand. I feel for the balance of the forces before I release.    My bows are very light, approximately 300g / 11oz. I have no need to add weight to them.

However in your way of shooting, with bow arm outstretched, you are right that there is no push. Your arm then acts as a spoke, pivoting on your shoulder.  As you draw the string, tension builds and this is where your bow arm might come up. This is then balanced by adding weight to the bow to balance the pull.

Different ways of holding the bow. Different geometry. Different shooting philosophy.

Trad bows shooters who don't use weights might also be pushing the bow to balance the pull force.

Not going to work very well from a tree stand, ground blind chair, etc.   Imagine shooting a tournament bow vertically from a ground blind chair. It would be a big laugh for those watching no doubt!

Is this the Fort Collins outdoor range?

Leaning is pushing...

So just say press instead of push

The "push" is more of maintaining muscle activation in the shoulder harness and lats on your bow side IMO

Anything else you want to blow our minds with🤣

I was starting to notice this some in my recurve practice. Experimenting with pushing through my clicker was resulting in 9 o’clock 7s (I’m right handed) good stuff Matt

Resist the pull with the best words you can find, no collapsing, no peeking, strong shots, bow arm like an oak limb, bone on bone, full extension, settle into it, stay still. Rinse, repeat. I like it.

I am pretty new to traditional archery and I understand what you are saying. This past week I have discovered that the linear method you describe works best for me. My words to myself are " get behind it " , that being behind the arrow. On release " follow it " which I accomplish  by keeping my head locked in the same position it was in at " get behind it " , that being my follow through. It has dramatically improved my accuracy.

Great video brother! Makes perfect sense. Lately I say "statue".  So draw/anchor/aim, statue (bowarm/safety), expand. On a side note, we need more chocho!
