I didn’t include this section of the Service in the main video of the Reopening & Dedication of Killyclooney Orange Hall, as it lasted a bit too long for a single upload. Still, it’s a significant moment in the historical story, and I felt it deserved to be shared. I also wasn’t able to record right to the end because I had to travel to Grey’s Printers in Strabane, which was open for one day only as part of the European Heritage weekend. It’s a place that’s rarely open, and I’ve always wanted to see it.
Killyclooney Orange Hall sits on a hill not far from Ballymagory, Tullyard, and Cullion in the Strabane District of County Tyrone.
After the First World War, many homes and several Orange Halls in this area were built from tin. The nearby village of Bready was almost entirely made up of tin buildings, including its Orange Hall and a Church Hall once used by the B Specials. Over the years, these structures were replaced with modern buildings, and Killyclooney Orange Hall was no exception. The original tin hall stood for almost a century before it was finally time for renewal. It’s great to see that the new hall keeps the spirit of the old one, rebuilt in a similar style but with modern insulated tin.
