Halloween Horror Nights is a Mess

When Universal Orlando took away the option to buy their Fear Pass with express, it sparked a lot of outrage in the Halloween Horror Nights community. People were angry both with how Universal failed to communicate and because it was a great, though expensive perk, but what it really reveals is that Halloween Horror Nights in a complete mess, which I thought would be interesting to explore in this video. The park has nowhere near the capacity to accommodate the number of people that are let in and express pass is oversold to the point where it brings the stand-by lines to a crawl.

The real horror is the lines we waited in along the way

Always reminded of Defunctland's Fastpass video and how theme parks essentially create these problems for themselves to drain more money out of you

One thing I’ve noticed recently is literally EVERYONE is selling stuff past capacity, everything from theme parks and conventions to like hotel bookings and planes tickets. It’s really annoying how they refuse to make a little less money to ensure the comfort and safety of guests and staff

Most of my issue with hhn is that there’s a bunch of drunk loud adults acting like 7 year olds for no reason.

Just went to the event in Hollywood this weekend, and while it was fun, you're 100% right - the crowds were completely unreasonable. Even Knotts at its absolute most crowded doesn't get over an hour wait for a maze.

That hypothetical was oddly specific

I stopped going a couple years ago. I’m so tired of parents bringing small kids and disrespectful teens running around. I wish they would do after a certain time it’s 18+ and 13+ with an adult/ guardian. It’s not fun anymore

You could stand in line and watch the whole movie of Sinners before you get in the exhibit.

It seems that increasingly with each passing year this problem gets worse no matter where you go. Everything is way too crowded and the idiots ruin the experience.

I may not like horror in general, but I can see the art in haunted houses and feel sad that people have to wait so long just to see them

The problem lies with a paid fast pass/express pass system. If they earn more money the worst the standby wait times are, there is zero incentive to make things any better. They won't increase capacity or improve anything until they absolutely have to.

13:05 we went on 9/23 and my brother ended up waiting so long for the mummy that the lockers reset lol

I just went few weeks ago to universal Hollywood on a Sunday. It took me all 8+ hours from 6 pm - 2 am just to get to and through all 8 haunted houses and 4 scare zones, and I was by myself. The lines were absolutely ridiculous.

HHN is always so packed that it ruins everything - waiting hours for a just ok maze is the worst - and to top it off, it gets so busy that the heavy crowds ruin any scares because you just saw someone in front already experience it - such a waste of time and money

@thedaywalkermurillo7991 4 days ago

It’s hard to enjoy the houses when you’re getting rushed through

@darknessshallfall934ho3 4 days ago

Just went to HHN is Universal Osaka, the stark difference is staggering, there are no ushers showing you the way, people are ushered in 5 or 6 at a time to make the experience feel authentic and for all the scares to kick in and reset, the scare actors scare you to the next rooms making it feel like no where is safe if your in the front or back, photography and video recording is banned which makes the line move smoother, you cannot chicken out on a maze and u must go forward, the new fear factory maze has interactive elements where you press buttons to disengage the scare actors. The Resident evil maze is the best and feels like classic HHN for how creative the scares and set designs are

I implore you to visit universal Osaka for HHN the house quality and people are 10x better and feels like classic HHN

I wish they would utilize the backlot again in Hollywood for HHN. Walking around the back lot was always an awesome experience!

One key factor I would say is missing from the event is MORE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT. What better way to disperse crows and place guests in certain areas to keep line capacity at regulated pace. People want to be entertained and that has been lacking severely.

death to fast passes

I've been feeling this so hard ever since 2022 in Hollywood...I've been going for the past 12 years, comfortably able to make every maze without express in the past as long as i planned it well, but now I have to get lucky and be practically running the entire length of the park constantly with whoever my group is...we are so cooked 😭
