Love this update. Despite its lowly bottom of the barrel position, I LOVE 88 Topps. Iconic images (for me) of Mattingly, Boggs, McGwire, which I had as binder folders at school.
I was born after the junk wax era, but I love the look of the late 80s set more then modern stuff. I love the bold colors and the simplicity compared to how busy modern sets often look.
Nice video as always. Nice to see junk wax getting more love and respect. It may not be the most expensive era, but it was what we had growing up, and we loved it.
There had to be more baseball cards printed in 1981 than 1980, so I think 1980 is where vintage baseball ends. In 1981, Topps probably printed more baseball cards than 1980 to compete with their 2 new competitors. And Donruss and Fleer probably printed a lot of baseball cards just to get off to a good start. So, just my opinion, junk wax started in 1981
Well, I think I made a good buy when I bought Topps vending boxes sealed and certified from 1981 through 1986. One thing in particular about the 1986 tops is that it is gaining in value because most of the cards are hard to get in a grade 10 because of miss cuts and black border chipping.
I definitely noticed the jump in 1985 Topps early this year or late last year. It's the only Topps set I'm missing from 1984-95. I will probably skip it, it's just not worth 100 bucks to me personally and I think it will continue to climb.
I've paid between three and four dollars for junk wax team sets. Always high quality and very nice not to have to pull or collect them piece by piece. There is a way to make some profit off of junk.
Interesting. Suggests the hobby is healthy, in spite of the nay-sayers. But, of course, the same stock index disclaimer holds here: Past performance is no guarantee of future results. ;) Will look forward to the 2028 update!
I have 1983, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990 top shots all binder except for the good cards. It’s nice to know that my 83 set is worth that much.
I do wanna eventually get myself a navy six and I actually like your presentation set Phillies guy. If I can get the money together, maybe I can purchase one from you.
Nicely done......very nice. I have been buying raw lots of these years for........well, years, trying to collate sets. Looks like it is finally paying off.
