They will have to pry my Pen F from my cold dead fingers. I shoot with it like I did with my film-era Leicas and rarely take advantage of many of the features it offers, much less do I need any more. Don’t use it for video or wildlife.

The words have been spoken👍

Thanks for this. The one thing holding me back is I'm unsure about the EVF. I'm used to the OM-1's great EVF so I wonder if the EVF on the OM5 mark ii might seem too small.

The complaint with 8bit vs 10 is how easier it is to grade and how flexible the files are not really the quality of the video . And idk what you are talking about with Nikon . I shot their dslrs before moving over to mirrorless and their S glass imo is some of the best glass there is out there . I currently own a Ricoh GrIv and a z6iii . I’ve owned about 42 mirroless cameras since 2016 . But I haven’t owned m43 hence why I’m here . The only thing I’m concerned about is JPEGs at 6400 ISO in poor light . I prefer to not use any denoise programs .

I think the late Galen Rowell would have loved this camera. Gene Smith, too.

That eyepiece issue was why I gave up on the first two generations of Olympus m43. I got tired of having to carry around a sandwich bag full of eyepieces. It's a flimsy, crap design on a camera that supposedly was designed by photographers for photographers and isn't cheap. The first time one comes off, either from rubbing against your bag or hip, or because you took it off to clean the viewfinder, it's done: the flimsy plastic is fatigued beyond the point of maintaining tension. My E-M1 Mk.II, which I bought used a couple of years ago, hasn't had that problem. I may well get an O-M5 II and see if I can figure out how to keep them on.

One small correction: "the elephant in the room" isn't a big issue or a common misconception. It's the big thing people are trying to ignore.

My family and I lived in Union for years. We love that area. We still drive by Hot Lake once a month or so. Love the photos.

Thank you for your ”review” and opinions. Personally I would like a tilt screen, not the fully articulating. I wish there was a compact zoom e.g. 14-35 f4. I have the 12-45 f4 and it’s great but I’d like one a little more compact for this camera.

Thank you Edward. As a carpenter, firearms instructor, former TF sapper and past firearm range manager … this is reminiscent of what I have repeatedly said to people about:
A. Tools, hardware and materials for construction; and
B. Firearms, ammunition, reloading, sighting telescopes, etcetera.

There is no ‘wonder kit’ that will do everything for you. There is a brain in your head, a wealth of valid instruction available and a variety of options for every budget or task. You have to think, ask questions and take heed of the answers you receive.

Keep well and enjoy the warmer months. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.

"iI you're not getting the photograph that you want from this mft camera, you don't know what you're doing!" 😆😆😆

The "plastic" construction doesn't phase me. Decades ago my metal film cameras were all dented and scratched from long use outdoors in nature photography. My first digital camera was a "plastic" bodied Nikon D80. That camera took many bumps and drops that would have scratched and dented a metal body without showing any visible signs of damage. Modern polycarbonates or whatever they use now are very robust and resilient.

Interesting listening to your comments on Pentax usability and layout and how that translates very well to the Olympus / om layouts. I used to shoot Pentax as well and I feel exactly the same way!

@bobbyhicks1078 4 months ago

My ears perked up when you mentioned the older Nikon models. My “go to” Camera is the Pen F, but on the recommendation of an old photographer friend who has done it all, and shot with it all, I recently bought a Nikon D40 6mp camera for $50. I have been absolutely astounded at the image quality of some of the pics! Megapixels, Schmegapixels! 😂

@spyrit35 5 months ago

I'm so confused. At the 1:58min mark... did you just attach 2 lenses together?

@Solarsystem50 5 months ago

I have to first Olympus Om-5 with 16mp and it takes great pictures. Every time I compare it with my Fuji XH-2 and I have only but respect for the image quality and ease of use. I am quite tempted to get the new version.

I recent took photography back up with a nearly 20 year old Canon DSLR. I just broke it by being an idiot and ordered this camera. I'm very excited to try it. Even if it's the worst M4/3 it's going to be a dream compared to my 60d.

@peteeccles68 5 months ago

Love the honest and direct approach to M4/3. I have Sony ff A7C2 and the OM5 MKll. I can get great images with both because I know what I'm doing. People slate M4/3 without even trying it. Give it a go and then decide. The OM5 is a fantastic camera

@SpudUna 5 months ago

I like the fact the body is really comfortable in freezing conditions.

I'm actually considering getting an OM5ii for EDC. I used to have an EM-5iii but seldom used it because I always had the EM3iii to grab instead (Loved that camera!). I still have like 4 batteries that'll work for the OM5ii. I'm worried I won't use it much though because I am really hooked on my OM1's. I also prefer the backlit sensors of the OM1's too, they just seem to produce a little better files.
I've been scratching my head over the OM-5ii, especially considering how much I enjoy carrying the X-E5 for EDC. GAS in gnawing at me! !!!!!! LOL

Ed-thank you for your videos, super great content. I sub'ed after I found your channel.
Like the OM-5 but WHY couldn't OMS have used the NEW menu system when they came out with the Mark II ??? With the OMS President now taking a majority ownership stake in the company, maybe shortcomings like this can be addressed!
