The turbo tunnel really is the great filter of Battletoads. If you get past it then you've got what it takes to do all the memorization / muscle memory for the rest of the game.

Throwback Rare was on a different level. Sheer dominance.

One of the best pause menu tunes of all-time!!!

A few tips (from someone who almost beat the game back in the day):
> The warp on Karnath's Lair is very recommended. It skips some incredibly difficult sections of the game (particularly Volkmire's Inferno).
> Wookie Hole. If you stay on either of the walls, your Toad will start turning into a wrecking ball. Press the punch button to slam across the screen. This is a one hit KO on any enemy (also a 1 hit KO on your partner in 2 player, so be careful). Good if there's too many birds on screen, or for whacking the "Retro Blasters" (as the instruction manual calls them).
> Turbo Tunnel. If you jump the split second before you run into one of the bikes, you'll go FLYING off the screen, and stay up there for over a minute. This is more of a novelty then anything else (sadly, you can't stay up there for the entire level).

It's technically possible to jump over the high walls (but certainly NOT recommended).
> Karnath's Lair. It's also possible to jump over and land in the exit hole without the snake's head. It's even possible to die to the spikes and trigger the exit while dead (this ends the level without you losing a life funny enough). But your way is far safer of course.

> Volkmire's Inferno. For the fireballs, what worked (at least for me), was to just keep moving. Move in random directions even if there's nothing near you. For some reason, it was easier to react if I was already moving (as opposed to not moving). May not work for everyone....
As for the final section, I had to be a cheapass and use a lot of pausing 🤣
> 34:19 You can swim up just enough to bait a shark down. Wait on the floor and you can easily pummel it. You can easily bait the 2nd shark down as well.
Yes, those "Steelbeaks" will wreck your shit. They hit so hard your carcass can clip through the wall 💀
> Rat Race. For General Slaughter (the boss), just jump behind him, follow him, and headbutt him right against the wall. While falling, he'll move over you toward the other wall, so follow him again. Rinse and repeat until he's dead.

> Clinger Winger. The pause trick that worked on Volkmire's Inferno works here as well. Just pause on every corner. Boring and annoying, but it works.
Otherwise the real trick here is apparently to only push the correct direction. If you're fat thumbing a diagonal direction by mistake, then that's fatal.
> The Revolution. Those Red Rhinos are the ONE reason I didn't actually beat this game back in the day (you don't have the stick if you die after that checkpoint).
But yes. At 51:32 is how you beat them without the stick. I wish 10 year old myself knew that ☹
> Armageddon. The Dark Queen's boss arena is technically it's own level. Apparently you restart here if you use a Continue.

Hey, I just wanted to say I finally beat Battletoads for the first time last Friday and it's largely due to this walkthrough. This taught me so many tips and tricks I never would've realized otherwise. It took me three months of constant failure but finishing it felt incredible.

Oh, man. You did Battletoads. I have PTSD because of this game. I could never make it past the Turbo Tunnel as a kid. And two-player? This is the only game I'm aware of that actually gets harder on two-player mode.

looks like a great game, LOVES

Another great win! Thanks for the walk through. I’ve never had the patience to make it through this one.

Nice guide I will throw in some Ultimate tips for the later levels

(Honorable mention for level 2 if you held one direction on the wall your on you turn into a giant wrecking ball and hit attack you can take down the plants and robots in one hit with those attacks)

level 6: you gave the shortcut for the last room because the last couple of snakes after that one is beyond nasty

level 7: for both the fireballs and missiles there's a easy way to do those with almost no dodging.... the bottom left corner for the fire balls and nearly idenical for the missles you only need to move upwards a couple times for the fire. and a occasional movement for the missiles.

level 8: to get the 1up you get to the left side and wait for the roof to come and do a high jump and keep holding left you will get it and this will nail you a infinite loop one up, and here's the trick for Robo Manus, when he gets to the fast point you could just wait for two rounds of bullets staying in the duck position then do a dash head butt quickly and hopefully nail more juggling.

Level 9: There's a Cool Glitch for the Final Cog i learned on Another Channel, if you start swimming up, just under where the third pink pipe is on that entrance you can swim to where the cog was and it will slip right by you and you can just go threw that section with no worries, for the last big section with the one shark and fish you could take them down at the bottom of the screen in a non-spike area so no fear of them, and in the same section you can jump on the left side where the final rubber duck is to not have to wait,

level 10: not much to be said, but one thing for those who can pull this off, a glitch to skip the level entirely, if you head but the rat before it hits the ground then do a dash attack again and give the rat the boot the level mysteriously ends in victory, (i think how the glitch works is you just tricked the game into thinking you did that to the boss of the level.)

Level 11: you might still have trouble with level regardless of turning correct because you could actually still mess up, but theres a loophole around this, heck it makes it easier, You Pause at each turn but same thing right at the corners as best as possible (you got a perfect timing if the vehicles and the toad are mysterious separated from each other.) anyway you just hold the direction your going next and it still works it just hard to do on the short quick sections. also there's a faster way to do the boss but takes practice if you head butt him to pin him on a wall and quickly run up and start punching there you will pick the ball up eventually, go to the third arrow on either side and throw him to the wall again and quickly headbutt again, you rinse and repeat from there. (be carful if it escape the loop)

level 12: you got everything right but there's a safer way to do the queen you just simply hit her from behind that it, because if you got at her from the front there's a big risk of her kneeing you.

Oh man! Floating through Battletoads Way more easier than I could ever imagine and a third base pop goes the weasel reference. You're like the giving tree in terms of content and humor, and I am here for it.

Keep on posting these types of vids! I do enjoy watching them!

Loved this game! Only made it to the last level a couple times and never could beat the final boss

Wow, awesome! When I was young I often go past the "airplane" part, but with not enough lives to really approach the remaining parts! Thank you for playing and finishing this challenging game!

While I'd heard people talk about the NES version of Battletoads in fourth grade, my first actual exposure to it was the Gameboy iteration which I picked up at a game exchange when I was fourteen. I remember quickly growing to hate the game despite yet another rockin' soundtrack by  David Wise, for the simple reason that none of my family managed to make it past the first level. We ended up dying to a disembodied arm with a club LOL. So for a long time we avoided this one like the plague as well.

KEEP THEM COMING!

The series concept document for Battletoads was CRAZY. Bits and pieces of it showed up in things like the random Nintendo Power comics or the SNES game, but in short:
-It's all a virtual reality video game world that is somehow "real."
-Silas Volkmire is an angry, evil game programmer who also turns himself into a demonic super-space villain in the game world.
-The three toads are three programmers and playtesters
-The Dark Queen is Silas's sister int he real world (and the CEO of the game corp), who is unaware that in the virutal world she's the Big Supervillain.
-Robo-Manus's "human" form was him before he got captured and robo-mutated by the Dark Queen. He was designed with an action figure in mind - specifically one that could "transform" by splitting open from the human form in this game to the wider-torso long-necked monster robot from every other game.

I only made it as far as the pipe maze back in the day,

I got this one at a yard sale from my grandma back in Summer of 1995. It gets more and more difficult as you move along. Probably one of the hardest NES games anybody can play.

Dude! The music in the pause menu is 🔥

RetroNate an awesome gameplayer! Just Awesome!

The channel is healing me of all the game I didn't finish when I was a little.
