Alright, here we go—today I’m diving into a powerhouse live performance of You’re The Voice by John Farnham with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra… and wow, I was not ready for this level of energy. From the very first note, you can feel that heartbeat groove, that arena-sized anthem energy, and a vocal performance that just soars.

We’re talking about a voice with power, control, and that smoky rasp that cuts right through a full orchestral arrangement—no small feat. I break down what makes Farnham’s vocal delivery so compelling, how he navigates those high notes with ease, and why this song still hits like a tidal wave decades later.

John is 76 years old and is currently cancer-free after 2022 mouth cancer surgery, but it is uncertain if he will ever sing professionally again. While he "wails in the shower" and sings at home, severe, lasting impacts from the surgery make opening his mouth wide for public performance difficult and painful. We just want him to be Ok, whatever he is doing. John is the GOAT vocalist & performer of Australia. Additionally, he is just an incredibly nice guy.

He threw the mike in the air and caught it before he threw it away

This Australian singer/Legend, John Farnham, was dubbed "The Voice" because of his vocal ability. However, one thing to note: no matter the nostalgic vibe this song gives off. Importantly, the message this song gave us back in the 80's applies more than ever today, given the global turmoil, and with the threat of Nuclear war & civil unrest happening around the world now. This song should be played at all rallies & marches in protest to war. God bless John Farnham and all of us.

Aussie’s be upstanding for our national anthem! Our unofficial one, but that’s how Aussie’s feel about this song! I grew up with this I was 16 when this was released in 1986! It reminds me of a simpler time, a great time, it was fantastic growing up in Australia in the 80’s unfortunately it’s not the same anymore, but we have the music still ❤ great reaction Ken ❤

Everybody misses the first mic stand catch !!

The song was actually written in another key. When John decided to changed the flute solo to a bagpipe solo, they had to change the key of the song. Originally written in G, the song was detuned to F when the bagpipe player broke the news that bagpipes are tuned in Bb. This was done by David Hirschfelder who you see on keyboard, a brilliant musician and composer. John has a very powerful voice and a great mic technique. everyone comments on it.

John was a teen idol in the late 60s, fell out of the spotlight but kept working, and this was the song that revived his career in the mid-80s. Since then he’s ascended to Australian national treasure.
