A masterclass is MUCH more than music - here is a superb musician more than willing to share his knowledge, skills, experience and thoughts. No ego here - just a willingness to share.
What strikes me about this is that here you have a guitarist at the skill level of SRV or Hendrix, but without the fatal flaw of substance abuse, who wants to help others with life lessons to date. There is such an incredible self-awareness and introspection in this artist, which combined with his generous sharing of what he found out while becoming famous and successful, is an offered gift to generations of musicians who will give it a listen.
Man at Berklee we have music non stop 24-7. I remember during the first week I was there, Winter Semester 1991, I was in one of the 150 Mass Ave dorm practice sheds practicing my Drums down the hall from my dorm room. this Piano cat found me tans (also a Berklee Student) is like, come hit on this track he was recording in a like 30 minutes down in one of recording studios. He needed drums. It was the middle the night. He had this killer bassist and he was on the Grand Piano in in one of the recording studios, also in 150 Mass Ave. So we all hit on his track on the first take to tape and he gave the product to me on a cassette. It was a killing track all the way around. Berklee.
53:59 best part of the entire clip. If you are not going inside oneself (such as meditating, being in silence, contemplating) to get ideas, which normally reveal themselves randomly or as a "stream of conciousness" then do everything you can to increase your exposure to amazing experiences, EXPOSE you SELF, to the weird, wild & wacky things in life, do something you wouldn't normally do, because in the end its these challenges that require new thoughts and ideas in order to overcome things, and these... are song worthy! You can do both of these! Much Love XO
this version of assasin 😩 the chorus is sooooooooooooo much better in every way than the recorded version. such mixed emotions his production on the record is amazing but this chorus man.
I can’t believe this is the first time I’m coming across this video! I’m completely blown away. I’ve always been a big fan of John Mayer, but this is just another level of respect for him, this is GOLD. What he shares is so important and this has easy become my fav video to rewatch. That was a masterclass, thank you so much for posting this 🔥🙏🏽
