Janis had more soul in her pinky toe than most people can comprehend.

Live Monteray pop Festival...BALL AND CHAIN! Mama Cass Elliot from The Mamas And The Poppas is in the audience and is in total awe of Janis. BALL AND CHAIN live.

Me and Bobby McGee should be your next janis Joplin listen too

Don’t get me wrong here, I love Janis and she was totally a unicorn that I was lucky enough to be alive (albeit only a child, but with four much older siblings) to experience when she was still alive.  But I often skip some Janis reaction videos because I’ve heard these songs so endlessly since.  But I clicked on this one today because it’s my favorite by her.  And you hit on something brand new today to me but which clicked in my head as soon as I heard you say it: she uses her voice and phrasing like a jazz instrumentalist.  You may be young and not familiar with things I’ve heard almost all my life, but your insight there was brilliant and I truly appreciate you.

One of music's great tragedies is how young she was when she died... she was a like a flicker in the grand scheme of music but still one of the voices we still talk about 56 years later.

Janis was one of the few women who was able to push through the male dominated and controlled music industry.

Me and Bobby McGee and Mercedes Benz are both great too!!

My favorite Janis song is Summertime 😍 please listen to that it's amazing 🤩 her voice is soooo tender in this, plus her iconic growl. You will love it 🎉

Watch her performance at The Monterey Pop Festival. Just watching and listening to her is beyond amazing. I was lucky enough to be there with my parents.

Big Mama Thornton was an idol of my hers. She would go hang out at blues jazz and rock clubs in highschool. I think the music gave her a sense of peace she wasn't getting growing up

We will never get another one like Janis!!!  Enjoy!

She was 24/25 when this song was recorded. That's one soulful voice.

Walking home from school in 5th grade, Socal Sherman Oaks. Reaching for the gate to the courtyard, breeze blowing, sun shining and I can hear Janis Joplin coming from the open window above our apartment. And on the other side, Bob Dylan blasting out The Times They Are A Chainging. Even then I knew, what a great time to be alive!

I just love her passion and voice when she sings. I hate that she couldn’t fight her demons too many in the 27 club. She is so authentic.

You gotta do her at Monterey International Pop Festival Ball & Chain, it's just wow

Her nickname was Pearl.  What a loss when she passed so young.

Take one moment to notice just how good the musicians are in her band as well.  Big Brother and the Holding Company was a group of very talented men who reunited after her death and continued to play with other singers.

Don't let us wait another 3 month til you finally do Ball and Chains (Monterey Festival)! 🙈

Janis was one serious BADASS singer for sure! 🥰

Janis came from South Texas. Not everyone realizes the influence of blues & jazz here. Stevie Ray Vaughan said blues was in the dirt here. Austin has always been a musical hub for all genres, but especially the blues. To me, Janis is a perfect example of some good ole Texas blues music.
You should listen to Me & Bobby McGee next. Then, the live version of Ball & Chain. The camera shows Momma Cass from The Mommas & the Poppas just being blown away by Janis. If you want to hear her whimsical side take a listen to Mercedes Benz. I believe that was her custom painted Mercedes in this video.
