I am re-posting a talk by Dallin H Oaks about the Prophet Joseph Smith. His testimony of the Prophet Joseph is beautiful, highlighting his faith and accomplishments. He did much research on the Prophet Joseph Smith. Elder Oaks was a University President, a state Supreme Court Justice, and is currently in the First Presidency of the LDS Church.

CORRECTION Dallin Oaks was on the Utah Supreme Court.... not the Supreme Court of the United States.

A little-known fact about Joseph as a boy in upstate New York, was that he had a close friend, perhaps his best friend outside of his family. I speculate this friend knew about the first vision and even the visits of Moroni. This friend was present when the Church was organized (17 at the time) but he never held any regular church calling. He was known for being antisocial and was also known for his rough continence. He was not what anyone would think of as a religious person. He was fiercely loyal to Joseph and never spoke ill of him as he did so many others. His name was Orrin Porter Rockwell.

I remember meeting Dallin Oaks and shaking his hand in 2000 over 25yrs ago. When I did I remember a feeling of absolute peace, gentleness, and intellectual honesty. His hand was huge. It completely wrapped my adult hand. His hand was sturdy, tender, but obviously packed with muscle. I would guess he must have done serious labor in his youth before becoming a judge and apostle. At the time of shaking Elder Oaks hand I was serving a 2yr mission in the Hartford Connecticut Mission. He took the time to share every single missionaries hand that was in attendance that day. It was not rushed but absolutely felt sincere. So much so that all these years later I have never forgotten the feeling that I was in the midst of one of Gods noble and great sons…

That last quote always gives me chills & brings me to tears. ❤ I truly hope that Joseph Smith knows how much he is loved and revered by this people, the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Except for our Saviour, no one person has done more for mankind. ❤ I believe that. ❤

Loved hearing these wonderful words about the prophet Joseph Smith from Elder Oaks!

President Oaks has given us dozens if not hundreds of marvelous doctrinal talks. Surely a learned scholar but more important he is a disciple of Christ! Surely the prophet for our time to keep us on the true doctrinal path in a troubling time

Thanks 🙏 for sharing this… I absolutely 💯 agree with Elder Oaks. I’ve listened to every opinion and so called evidence that Joseph was not who he said he was. But at the end of the day the Spirit never testifies that those arguments are true.

In fact each time I humbly share the opinion and facts from the source himself or 1st hand accounts and each and every time the Spirit always comes supports that statement that I regurgitate from my past studies which then reinforces again that Joseph Smith was the prophet of God called by God and visited by the resurrected apostles Peter, James, and John and given the authority and keys of Christ ancient New Testament Church.

im not a LDS member, im doing research before hand, but just because a grown man acts childish should not determine his leadership role, Lord Jesus even said not to judge childish behaviors, in fact he asked for us to resort to being children, children are peaceful and awesome people if not trained to be otherwise, then thats the parent's fault for teaching them to be cruel or etc.

There's a great book by an LDS author (McCash) that shows that there is perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books and Benchmark Books.
