Many years ago (1987) I was in a leadership session of stake conference. Elder Vaughn J. Featherstone was presiding. During his talk he told a story about N. Eldon Tanner. I can't verify how true it is, but I heard Elder Featherstone tell it, so here goes:
After a stake conference, many members lined up in the aisle to come up to the stand to greet Elder Tanner. One young boy, when it came his turn, shook Elder Tanner's hand and said "You talk too soft" and promptly ran off and disappeared. Several minutes later the same young boy came through the line again and said "You talk too long" and ran off again. This time Elder Tanner kept track of where he went. He saw the boy get back into line. The third time he came up to Elder Tanner he said "You didn't have much to say". The lady behind the boy, in an attempt to make apologies for the boy's rudeness said "Oh don't mind him. He just goes around repeating what he hears other people say".
My Dad was an ordinance worker in Oakland California. One day a brother noticed his name tag and asked, "Are you related to Elder Packer?" Without skipping a beat, my Dad said, "I am Elder Packer." (My Dad's father is Boyd K's third cousin)
That makes perfect sense. Their bosom was burning, so .. everything in “the letter to The CES Director” must be false, and prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. died, riddled with bullets jumping out of a 2nd story jail cell window alongside his brother Hiram because everyone loved them so much.
