Moving to Australia is about much more than visas, jobs and finding somewhere to live. There’s a whole new culture, lifestyle and way of doing things to get used to.
Since moving from the UK to Australia, I’ve found myself slowly picking up Australian habits, slang and ways of life without even realising it. So in this video, I wanted to explore what it actually means to integrate into Australian culture.
Should you make an effort to fit in when you move to another country? How much of your old culture should you hold onto? And at what point do you realise you might actually be becoming Australian? 😂
We’re talking Aussie slang, going barefoot, the Australian lifestyle, cultural differences, making friends and some of the little things about living in Australia that you simply don’t understand until you actually live here.

Being Aussie is all about enjoying life and doing stuff! Cliched sounding but true. I moved here from London over 50 years ago and have enjoyed the lifestyle and the easy-going way of Australians ever since. The opportunity to visit the countryside was not made easy by the challenges in getting there - traffic and weather and when you get there everyone else had the same idea. Whereas here it is so easy to get to a picnic spot or vantage point and nobody else is there. I love the less congested roads and have no desire to go back to England (other than to catch up with my sister). I lost my London accent too, it just disappeared slowly and Aussies used to say, “Do I detect a hint of pommie there?” I used to think, “That is all you hear isn’t it”.
Any way thanks again for posting, a privilege to be able to share in your journey. Remember trucking is one of the most important jobs this country has, thanks for being part of that.

This means that you have a good circle of friends who will drop everything to lend you a hand whatever the situation is.
In return, they all know that you will repay the favour, despite how busy you may be at the time, to help them out.
As for the drinking culture.
Yes, we prefer to drink with good friends on social occasions, not just sitting in a Pub drinking for the sake of it.
There’s nothing more enjoyable than being out with great friends sharing a few drinks and catching up with each other over a BBQ or a night out over Dinner.👍🇦🇺
