Please tell me you're going there, amazing place! My now sadly departed German wife loved it, the Peak District, York, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay were always on the agenda. Even with late stage cancer, she would fight her way up that bloody hill, makes me tear up now, remembering those moments. Have a lovely time lads, you're in God's country now.

What you need to understand is that a lot of our coast has riptides and strong undercurrents

Before I got too old (I'm 74), I would spend a few days every year in Whitby and always visited Robin Hood's Bay. My knees and hips can't manage the steep hills any more 😢

You are very close to Whitby you should go there, also since you will be near North Yorkshire, Middlesbrough/ Teeside area to try a chicken parmo

The roads around Robin hoods bay are a nightmare if you are not used to them !! I had to get a wedding cake to a venue close by  and i have never been so stressed i was amazed we made it all in one piece.

We went there last year and nearly got lost in the tiny alleyways and back streets, it had an eerie feeling to it, the weather wasn’t great so it was dark and gloomy with hardly anyone about, we’re going to go again in summer when it’s more lively.

I went to Robin hoods Bay as kid over 40 years ago many times its great, especially when sea is rough and comes up ramp into the street lol

OH LOVE ROBIN HOODS BAY BEEN TWICE YOU CAN VISIT EDEN CAMP WHERE PRISONER OF WAR SOLDIERS WERE CAPTIVE

Trip challenges:
1. Skim a stone on Lake Windermere (alternative lake acceptable) so it bounces at least 4 times.
2. Touch a sheep (not inappropriately)
3. Take a photograph of a statue of Sir Isaac Newton or William Shakespeare (both are on your journey but you have to be observant)
4. Take a photo of Manchester’s canal street road sign so that a body part covers only the letters C and S
5. Ride the Big One (big Betty doesn’t count)
6. Stand on the balcony of Robin Hood’s cave – drone shot for proof
7. Photograph a real, dead or alive, Fox, Badger, Red Squirrel, Hedgehog or Scally.
8. Build a sandcastle and top it with a seashell (if you are clever, you can get a group photo so it looks like you are all standing on top of it)
9. Stand on top of Alport Castles (circling drone video shot for bonus) *don’t die.
10. Group photo next to a trig point

If there is a challenge you cannot meet, Try a group photo with your fingers crossed next to the sign that welcomes you to Hope village.

Now imagine it full of tourists crawling around people's homes, looking in their windows and asking where the escalators or elevators or even ski lifts are.  😀

My grandfather - with some difficulty because of the Depression - made his money with an agricultural machinery business in East Yorkshire. He lived in Beverley, where my mother grew up. But he also owned a house for summer visits in Robin Hood's Bay, and my mother had memories of going there before, during, and just after the War.
The geology of the area causes certain problems. The basic rocks are Jurassic, mainly sandstone, and very solid. They are full of fossils. But during the Ice Ages, great ice sheets came over from Norway, pushing a great deal of unconsolidate muck against that coast. So between Robin Hood's Bay and the next major headland south (Ravenscar?) there is also a low mud cliff, which erodes easily. This mud also sits on top of the Jurassic sea cliffs, and has been known to suddenly descend into the sea.
That is why there is such a huge sea wall at the bottom of Robin Hood's Bay; it's needed to prevent more erosion.
There is normally much more beach at Robin Hood's Bay. But, as is common in the UK, the tidal range is considerable.

Fantastic, hope you guys liked it. We were in Scarborough for a week in August and always stop at the bay when we're there. 😃🍻

Robin Hood's Bay is one of my favourite places to go

North Sea makes an Ocean look a wimp in its intensity.

You'll enjoy the drive over the North Yorkshire moors and the drop down into the village ! The walk down from the car park and the village is as steep as it looks too ! The coastal path is worth walking even just a short way.

Just seen the little house where we stayed, where the river ran under the fisherman's cottage, absolutely fabulous place 😍

Sat on those benches a few times... 😂🍻

I know youre already here guys but youll love it there. Probably picked a bad time weather wise though.

Trust me Josh the North Sea is not to be messed with , even on a calm sunny day in the middle of a heatwave, you will go in a boy and come out a girl 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶😥

Most of the cottages in the lower bay area are holiday rentals. Not many 'locals' live down there.
