In this review of the new Podmic-USB from RODE Mark Arnett discovers a problem with the Microphone that no one is talking about. While RODE's Ryan Burke told Mark that it was MFI (Made of iPhone) and would work seamlessly with an iPhone, it requires a special cable and doesn't work as a microphone for phone calls. That said, the PODMIC USB is still a great USB Mic. Enjoy!

This voice is far more enjoyable to listen to than most of the other mic reviewers.

clicked for the mic and stayed for the humor, you are hilarious dude 😂

I have to say, I was hesitant to click on this video because the title came across too click-baity for my liking, but I ended up enjoying the whole ~9 mins and found it to be not only entertaining (you have a great sense of humour!) but educational. I just got these mics and didn't know about the Rode Connect app, so going to play around with it now. Cheers!

So there’s this device called the ATR2x-USB by Audio Technica. It’s not what you want but Audio Technica might make something similar to what you want. This device allowed me to plug my mic into my Mac’s USB C to convert to audio signal. So maybe there’s a device out there that can do that for the Rode mic so you can use it on a phone.

Superb review!!! Professional and with a lot of details (like the fact that effects are in the mic and not the app). Kudos for sharing Tom’s video.

I just bought myself the rode podmic. i found this video pretty helpful. Much appreciated

You probably want to use it with a dedicated voice chat app. A normal phone connection will also always sound sub par anyways.

Couldn’t stop watching you 😊🤗🤗🤗 Great review. I have the old one and it’s been in my closet for ages. Just recorded a V.O. For my new video of Egypt’s Grand Museum and it came out decent.

Sir you truly are a marvel to hear, the number of subs you have is disgusting for so much insight, knowledge and quality of conternt. YT just become based for showing me your video on my feed... for a little while until they trigger another ADPOCALYPSE.

I'm glad to hear the USB functionality sounds great.

I was contemplating getting the OG with rodecaster but this seems like it might save money initially and then later I can invest in an Audio interface if it becomes necessary.

Thanks for doing this comparison review. I’ve got a few more things to say later but overall this was fantastic. You definitely answered questions I didn’t know that I had. This review let me know that possibly I may have a good use case for this, but there might be better options for me out there.

The only reason it's not going to be the same. It's because it has a closed back. If you shut the vents off the rode, the lower frequencies will naturally come back to the edge of the capsule. If you look at the polar patterns you will see what I'm talking about. It's a super bottom eavy and super self-noise heavy because of the phase out of the humbucker which also causes it to be a very low volume microphone. Amazing how things work out. The $40 eBay special for 20 years is all of a sudden popular
