I got a brand new 😊 5 1/2 LN plane recently, this video really reaffirms that it’s worth every penny.

I have quite a number of Lie Nielson planes and enjoy using them and caring for them.  I will someday send them on to a lucky new owner and hope they take care of them the way I have.  A joy to use and handle.

I toured the place back in about 2005.  The machining was fascinating, and all that machining doesn’t come cheap.  But I love their work.

Their planes are beautiful.  I only have one, but I treasure it.

Warms my heart to see such old world manufacturing done in the USA.

Great video, I have two Lie-Nielsen block planes: the rabbet and the adjustable mouth, both excellent tools. My favourite part of the whole video was the wrapping of the finished product! Greetings from Wales

As a child, I had no interest in store shop windows with toys.
But shop storefronts with tools drove me crazy.

Impressive manufacturing and design, metallurgical work, finishing and so much more. Quality control is superb and all people involved in the process are clearly expert in the domain in which they work. Were my pockets deep enough, I'd love to acquire one of what ever they make! I started my career at Freeman Mfg and Supply Co selling supplies to the metal casting industry where I apprenticed and it was great to see the fillet wax in the opening scenes!  Patternmakers and foundrymen are a dying breed of craftsmen (and women) who are able to produce tremendously accurate tools and I am looking forward to my own Lie-Nielsen plan very soon!  Do you offer tours of the factory?

I'm blown away at all the negativity in the comments.. Y'all just got a treatise on tool making, and you're more concerned about an extra hundred bucks or two??? I work with steel everyday and the quality of tool steel we get in my shop has gone way down over the years and has tons of impurities. LN is pouring and heat treating instead of outsourcing, which is something I highly appreciate.

In this day and age, if you haven't figured out how to bring in at least a couple hundred bucks a day, then you need to stop worrying about others and hit the drawing board again.
Money is energy. Go create...

I have purchased a few Lie Nielson Planes, including this one, the low-angle jack plane. Lots of manufacturing steps. Looks like they have the process down to a science. The quality is impressive. The last part of the video is even more impressive, getting a ribbon shave from a piece of curly maple? Truley impressive!
