This area of northern Isère is known as the "Pays des Couleurs" (Land of Colors). This is simply because, in the 19th century, many landscape painters flocked to the area to set up their easels around the lovely town of Morestel—a charming medieval village also known as the "City of Painters." Indeed, Morestel and its surrounding wild landscapes—dotted with numerous ponds—boast a striking quality of light that has long inspired artists. Before we reach the town itself, I invite you to join me on the "Painters' Route," as it is called.
