A runway incursion at San Francisco International Airport forced a private jet to reject its takeoff and sent another aircraft around. Reports indicate NetJets flight EJA864 attempted to cross Runway 28R without clearance while N17ZP, a Cessna Citation 680, was beginning its takeoff roll. United Airlines Flight 2262 was also approaching the airport and was instructed to go around.
Captain Steeeve listens to the ATC exchange and breaks down how quickly a seemingly simple taxi mistake can become a serious runway conflict. He explains what pilots are expected to hear and read back when approaching an active runway, why rejecting a takeoff was the right response for N17ZP, and how controllers manage multiple aircraft when something unexpectedly enters the runway environment.
Thankfully, the Citation stopped safely and the United flight went around, preventing the situation from becoming something far more serious. Captain Steeeve walks through what happened and what pilots can learn from this SFO pilot deviation.
