※ This video is an excerpt from  Korean Journey - Nostalgic Spring Day Part 1: Mom's Market , which aired on May 6, 2024.

Where the sea and land meet,

this is the Hongseong Five-Day Market, which boasts a history of over 170 years of traveling merchants.

As befits the center of northwestern Chungnam, where fresh seafood from the West Sea and abundant produce from the inland Chungcheong region gather,

when the market opens,

it is said that the entrance is packed with people eager to buy goods.

We met Ms. Noh Myeong-hee, a mother who has steadfastly held her ground here.

She, who raised four children while selling wild greens at the market, says she was able to overcome those difficult years because her children served as her pillars of support.

This market, which holds the memories of over 20 years she endured thinking only of her children, is the foundation of her life and her entire existence.

The couple, Noh Myeong-hee and Jeong Jeong-mo, are busy harvesting the spring greens that are scattered everywhere now that spring has arrived.

They say that butterbur, arrowwood shoots, and chili pepper shoots, which can only be seen in the spring, boast an incredible texture and taste known only to those in the know.

People greeting the dawn busier than anyone else.

As market day arrives, they gather diligently from the early morning to set up their stalls.

Amidst the pouring crowds, Ms. Myeong-hee's greens are by far the most popular! And warmth is a bonus!

As they exchange warm hospitality back and forth, the spring day becomes even warmer.

We delve into the story of a mother at the Hongseong Five-Day Market, where the traces of arduous years remain intact.
