Hollywood Lore

Harrison Ford has always been the smartest guy in the room. And he made sure everyone knew it.
He tried to silently slip away from George Lucas's projects. He turned down Spielberg more times than anyone dared to. He went to war with Sir Ridley Scott over the direction of Blade Runner — and somehow came out the winner.
From the sets of Star Wars and Indiana Jones to his most overlooked and underrated Harrison Ford movies, this is the full story behind one of Hollywood's most complicated careers.
The late bloomer who almost traded it all in for a carpenter's salary — and what made him stay.

Tom Selleck didn’t “choose” magnum pi. He was contractually blocked by the tv producers. He desperately wanted to do the film but no dice.

Ford wasn’t cursed in any way. He’s over 80 and still loved. He’s never had a bad role, just in movies that didn’t do well.

Ford also played the schoolteacher in ET; helped rewrite (and improve) Blade Runner's script before shooting and The Fugitive's unfinished script during shooting; and turned down Saving Private Ryan because he felt it trivialized WW2 to make it about one soldier.

"Regarding Henry," is one of my top five favorite movies. Harrison Ford crushed that role.

That Empire Strikes Back movie poster still makes my jaw drop.

Kurt Russel definitely auditioned for Han Solo, dude…

Most actors would be happy to be in one seminal, genre-defining masterpiece. Harrison Ford played front and centre in four.

He's 83 already... Damn. 😢

man, Ford had some really good instincts. He was really pretty right on every suggestion he made.

7:33 $4,000/mo was NOT the average monthly salary in the US in 1976. It was about $700/mo. Ford was doing great making nearly 6x the average US salary in a solid evonomy.

I'm just realising that the guy is even more impressive when you look at the movies he didn't do.

The first time I saw Apocylapse I thought "Why is Harrison Ford in such a rinky dink role?" He played a guy who was so nervous he dropped sensitive documents all over the room. I didn't know the backstory of Ford or the production of Apocylapse at the time

cutting to a TRAINSPOTTING clip when referencing River’s overdose is actually insane

Han Solo, Indiana Jones, Dr, Richard Kimball, Rick Deckard. What more could anyone want? I think Deckard was the hardest to swallow for fans. We expected a space shoot 'em up, but what we got was a complex cerebral film with many layers of subtext. Hated it when I first saw it, but it aged like fine wine. I don't think anyone involved thought they were creating a dystopian cyberpunk masterpiece, but it just turned out that way, maybe from all the talent pushing in different directions at the same time.

The fugitive is one of the best and most rewatchable movies of the 90s, a masterpiece. And also Call of the Wild from 2020 was actually a fun and enjoyable movie
