My late father & I built a back-halfed Z32 for street & no-prep small tire drag racing in 2015 & I have continued to develop it since, even after his passing in March '21. It runs a 3.3L single turbo VG30DETT with IMSA GTO heads from 1993, Mahle pistons on Manley rods rotating a Brian Crower stroker crank, Carbon factory 12x injector intake manifold & a Comp Turbos oil-less 78/80 turbo. It's mated to a Tick Performance TR6060 gearbox with a Bangshift Billy fully adjustable clutch & a narrowed Ford 8.8 solid rearend, all sitting on IDS, Import Drag Solutions, long travel suspension for rearward weight transfer on the hit. Personal best hit is 4.87 @ 151 in the 1/8th mile. I was lucky enough to come across the set online in 2016 & drove 8 hours straight from Connecticut to Virginia to get em lol. And while we run custom Kelford cams and Ferrera valvetrain and springs it's still the high flow casting with a slight port job. They've held up surprisingly well considering the amount of fuel and boost we push through them. Love the video brother. Keep em coming 🤘

Man were those so badass looking race cars back in those days, the huge box flares and honeycomb wheels with tires a mile wide man what an era in motorsports.

The 300zx was one of the best sports cars produced by Nissan.  I worked for Electromotive in the late 1970's and early 1980's, this video brings back memories.  The development of the 3 liter v-6 for racing in 1986 was a major undertaking with the new engine, we were able to eventually, on the twin turbo model( for the GTO class), able to push it to over 900 hp on the dynomometer. though it was detuned for the race track to maintain its durability.  Very remarkable for an older design 3 liter 12 valve engine, though there was a quite a lot of advanced tweaking we had to do, including a redesign of the heads. I worked side by side with Clayton Cunningham at Electromotive before he went off to run his own race shop.  I also knew Trevor Harris, as well as the drivers John Morton, Tony Adamowitz and Don Devendorf, who all drove for Nissan at the time, and some were involved with the development of the v6 and the GTP car..  Great times for Nissan.

I can remember Paul Newman, his FIRST RACE in the 300ZX at Laguna Seca.  Saying it wasn't running well....till they took a look at the times, FOUR SECONDS OFF THE GTO RECORD LAP!  As the week went on, BOTH Newman and Scott Sharp discovered more speed! By the the time they left on Monday the Zs had set FOUR new lap records!

I worked on the IMSA Del Mar race from 90 to 92; thanks fir using thar race footage, don't see it often enough.

I fell in love with this car as a child. We had a slot car track and this was one of the cars we had. I didn't know what it was, but I knew it was absolutely beautiful. I learned more about it as I got older, and love the 300zx to this day.

Those Japanese race cars from the 80s were awesome, I drove some of them playing gran turismo 3 and 4 a lot of these cars are in those Games

The greatest silhouette, tube frame cars of all time.  IMSA GTO/GTU. Born in 1980 and spent many a weekend at Mosport from 1989-1995 these were the cars that ignited a passion that lives to this day. Every time I see a 300ZX, a Cougar, or a RX7 I get flashbacks to this time. The Quattros and the short lived F40 program live rent free in my memories. Nothing could match that joy until I finally got to Imola last year and witnessed the awe and spectacle of WEC.  Please Nissan, come back home to racing and put up a real LMH competitor.
