Chiang Mai’s New Project Will Change the Old City Forever!

Join me for a walk through Chiang Mai Old City as I revisit the former Chiang Mai Women’s Prison, now being transformed into a brand-new public park and Lanna cultural heritage space. After years of sitting abandoned, the historic site is finally getting a major makeover, with original prison structures being preserved alongside walkways, greenery, ponds and new public spaces.

I’ll take you around the construction site, check out what’s changed, and see what this exciting new Chiang Mai park could look like when it opens. Along the way, we’ll grab a traditional moka coffee, enjoy some live music, and stop for a plate of famous khao man gai (chicken rice) at a long-established local restaurant.

A public park is the intended final project, but the future of the site remains uncertain as authorities weigh the archaeological significance of the palace ruins found underneath. It's looking like it will be a heritage public park.

Also, i had the noise cancel setting on for the mic while the band was playing, sorry about that.

The park inside the old city will be good for Chiang Mai.
When I used to stay inside Chiang Mai I remember lots of processions at different times of the year with bands like that one.
Next time I'm in the old city the Mocha coffee lady is a definite must visit.

Thanks for another great slice of life in Chiang Mai again Wayne. See that you like chicken rice and wondered if you know there is famous one called "Dan Chicken Rice (San Sai)" which is in the Michelin Guide. I go there quite regularly or order a takeaway. You have to get there early as it opens in the morning and sells out quickly. I especially like their clear chicken soup which accompanies the meals and I usually order 3 - 4 extra bowls. The price is VERY reasonable too and the quality is excellent.

Remember the "Paved paradise and put up a parking lot " song mate? Just great to see this incentive, give me a park any day. And when finished this old jail will be a sure tourist attraction winner. Hoping without the dual pricing for foreigners.
One more thing, how good is the new bitumen around the moat. I can smile again.

Thanks for sharing Wayne. Always something going on in the best city in Thailand. Loved the kids band. Very talented young folk. I'm always a but envious if folk with musical abilities.
You better get one of those coffee brewers mate. Get away from the instant coffee....or go back to PG tips.
