After the American Revolution, choosing the home for the government of the United States almost tore the new nation apart. ABOUT THE CAPITAL SERIES
A project of the Institute of Politics, Policy & History (IPPH), The Capital is Washington, D.C.’s origin story. It tells how choosing the home for the government of the United States almost tore the new nation apart. A French immigrant, a free African American, a Quaker, and the country’s first President came together to forge a “We the People” capital, establishing the People’s Meeting Place -- the US Capitol -- as the centerpiece of D.C. and the nation.

IPPH is dedicated to rediscovering the diverse history of Washington, D.C., illuminating D.C.’s untold stories, and diving into today’s pressing issues with insights from history.
