Maya everyday on stream “don’t play with wild animals”
Maya when she sees a spider “OMG IT FREN LEMME HOLD”

it's so silly watching the tarantula sense Maya's hand and immediately go "oh ew human" and try to go another direction

I'm studying as an ecologist in Australia, so we encounter a LOT of spiders, both dangerous and (nearly) totally harmless. Apparently spiders don't like being picked up by humans because they think the oils on our skin are stinky :(

The day connor was graced by the presence of a wild brown tarantula is the most memorable of his life, but for Maya it was Tuesday.

“You’re gonna have to get a gateway spider” I think a lot of us could benefit from a gateway spider ambassador! He’s the cutest thing I’ve ever kinda feared

As an avid spider keeper; the amount of joy she has for finding a tarantula and then taking photos of a jumping spider is too relatable. This would make my day

Lmao "Chat, im gonna do it, can you make sure im not gonna die real quick?"

Bro she dropped him off next to a bunch of innocent Jumping Spiders. Those guys are also scared of Tarantulas lmao

Hi, tarantula owner here. I can confirm that is a Texas Brown. Their venom isn’t strong enough to cause serious damage unless you have an allergic reaction (similar to bee stings). They’re known for being pretty chill spiders. :) It is one of the few tarantula species that are endemic to the US. Thank you for saving the little guy!

lmao @ maya's little 'let me in!' when she first got on scene 🤣

That’s a Texas brown(no joke that’s the common name) idr what the scientific name for that one was. I at one point had 32 tarantulas I was keeping at the same time. She’s was right though the venom is about a bee sting, but the size of the fang can put a pretty big hole in you. Anything native to NA is pretty docile and not very venomous. I would love to see her keep multiple tarantula’s. They are freaking awesome to watch and feed. I no longer have any but they are neat and would make good ambassadors.

12 minutes of Connor freaking out and Maya saying hi to her new friend.

"goodbye buddy, hope you find your dad" only true cultured beings know this reference 🐋🎄

What a cutie. Too bad he didn't wanna walk on her hands.

Not quite sure if I misheard or if your random knowledge was Really impressive for someone who doesn't keep spiders, but slightly off. Urticating hairs are on the top of the abdomen and they flick them into the air by rubbing them with their back legs. The T that you found (most probably a Texas Brown) is really docile, but I'd still advise against getting your face too close. You do Not want those hairs in your eye. That's a doctors visit and a Lot of discomfort for a good while, with possible infection. They might flick hairs even if they aren't feeling threatened enough to display a threat pose, etc.

Weird bug guy here:
You're actually EVOLVED to know when snakes and spiders are pissed it's how we survived. It's when we ignore these signs to do something we shouldn't be doing like cleaning their cage in a hurry, trying to grab them around the midsection in their alarmed state, or pinning and trapping them against a wall to try to "catch" them. They eventually warm up to handling but you can't grab a spider when its full of fight or flight chemicals. It's best to try again later once it's calmed down and to try a different approach. Maya has great instincts to let it decide where to go, thats usually the best way and they dont bite in this situation. They do not enjoy being held, crawling around you yes cuz i dunno it might be fun to them or something, but you don't really wanna touch them like you would your avg pet. It stresses them out and theyre so full of stress chemicals it shortens their lifespan. Handling is not holding. Holding is what they hate. They're whatever about handling. Some look like they enjoy it.

They're not exactly puppies but they don't care as long as they don't think they're being crushed or eaten. Thats pretty much the only thing these guys think about, that and if youre fucking up their burrow. You also shouldn't panic if you can feel their fangs, they actually use their fangs to dig and hold on to you so if its digging it's probably because you jostled it around too much. It's a bit painful but its actually not to bite and they can actually accidentally break skin but not inject venom at all, they just don't know any better since we're all smushy and they're often held at awkward angles. Due to their mass their weakness is being dropped. They're actually incredibly cute if you stare at them up close and learn their mannerisms and body language. Dont put them on a table you kinda just want to hold them over the ground at a safe height.

Ironically Maya's instinct to use a brush is HILARIOUS. I actually use a toothbrush!

a tarantula in the US is going to be a "new world" tarantula, which defends itself with eradicating hairs, the only significant bite from a tarantulas is from "old world" tarantulas.

tarantula is more scared of maya than the other way around lmaoo

Maya having bigger balls then all of us

Thats def a texas brown, and yes they do have Urticating hairs, not reticulating hairs, and they can definitely flick them around not just drop them. I saw a friend get bit by one and I can confirm that it hurts a decent amount, they likened it to being stung by a bumblebee, but it was not too bad otherwise, no real danger as far as toxicity goes.
