Have you ever wondered who exactly those wild men who allied themselves with Saruman were? What drove them to seek revenge and ally themselves with the enemy of Rohan? I invite you on a journey through the history of the Dunlendings, a people plagued by conflicts they never originally chose. Along the way, we'll discover the vastness, depth, and complexity of Tolkien's marvelous work.
I hope you enjoy the video. I'll read you in the comments.
Best regards.

SUMMARY:
The Dunlendings are descendants of the pre-Númenóreans, a group of men who did not reach Beleriand or participate in the wars against Morgoth in the First Age. While the Edain, ancestors of the Númenóreans, allied themselves with the Elves in Beleriand and earned rewards from the Valar, the future Dunlendings lived peacefully in the regions of Enedwaith and Minhiriath. When the Númenóreans arrived in Middle-earth in the Second Age, the Dunlendings and other local peoples began to suffer deforestation and displacement, becoming marginalized and considered "Men of the Shadows" by the Númenóreans.
This animosity intensified during the Third Age when the exiled Númenóreans established the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor. In particular, the conflict with Rohan was devastating: the Dunlendings' territory was granted to the Rohirrim by Gondor, intensifying the resentment between the two peoples. The Dunlendings, driven by desperation and historical grievances, eventually agreed to ally with Saruman on his promise to return their lands. This alliance led them to fight against Rohan in the War of the Ring, most notably their role in the Battle of Helm's Deep. However, after Saruman's defeat, many Dunlendings surrendered, and Rohan allowed them to return to their lands if they swore never to cross the River Isen in arms again.
