Let me state this for the benefit of those who may not know: (If you enjoyed this masterpiece of a movie as a work of fiction: GREAT! So did I.)
However, Robert the Bruce NEVER betrayed William Wallace like this in real life. Hollywood strikes again!
Doesn't mean we can't still enjoy a great movie, just another reminder that we should be careful of taking "history lessons" from movies, no matter how powerful the delivery is.
I added a few notes in the analysis section after the video, you're welcome to check it out.

If the nobles betray the people it's politics, if the people betray the nobles, it's treason. Hasn't really changed.

The look on his face is the best acting ive ever seen

The absolute hopelessness Gibson wears on his face just tears me apart. Being betrayed by someone you basically revere must be one of the most heart-rending things a person can go through.

I'm born and still live in Falkirk, Wallace carried one of his best friends John de Graham from the battlefield and watch him die in what is now a park in the town, his memorial tomb is in a church yard just off the high street.

King Edward was called Long Shanks because he was taller than most people. Not because of other.... endowments.

This movie just proved what an incredible actor Mel Gibson was. The total betrayal in his eyes is absolutely heart breaking. I hear you guy. If you watched the movie thinking it was 100% based on history then you lost the plot. It is like the Starz series Outlander. There are historical facts included but for the most part it is a fictional love story.

The breaking of the arrow was a real thing. The reason was in most cases the only way to remove the arrow was to drive it completely through body, unless it was already in a vital organ. In which case you’d die a horrible death once infection sat in.

Robert turned out to be Scotland's greatest king

My ancestor Roger de Kirkpatrick assassinated John "The Red" Comyn for Robert de Bruce to take power.

The scene after this when Robert sees his father after his father has Wallace captured is one of the VERY best cinematic scenes I’ve ever seen.

King Edward I aka Longshank lived for approximately two years after the death of William Wallace, as he died in July 1307, while Wallace was executed in August 1305. Edward I died in 1307 while leading another invasion of Scotland, which was a continuation of his long-standing efforts to control the country.

Robert the Bruce and William Wallace were allies in the fight for Scottish independence against England, although historical records suggest they may not have met or fought side-by-side in every instance. They were both involved in the rebellion against King Edward I, and Bruce initially supported Wallace's cause.

5:07 Patrick McGoohan's facial acting (specifically his eyes) when he says "Just as good".... Top tier. I have thought about that moment ever since I saw this film for the first time 26 years ago.

You have to think that when they were editing the movie and putting it together, they saw that moment and were like: "oh my god"

Love it!!!!

Scotland was a recognised nation long before England's tribal kingdoms were united under one English king. The real William Wallace lived in an independent country before King Alexander iii died. So when in the movie he said give us something we've never had before, a country of our own, it was totally wrong. It had just lost its independence due to the invasion of 1296.
