My late uncle had a Singer Chamois, basically the same as an Imp but with a few "posh" extras. It was the same year and colour as yours and he kept it going for around 10 years with an engine rebuild after 5 years, when we fitted a new cam from Roger Nathan Racing and twin Strombergs, dishing up a heady 65 bhp. Very confortable little cars but absolutely tiny compared to today's smallest class. The steering was very light and front tyres lasted for many miles. Screen wash was done by squeezing a rubber button on the left hand side of the console, 4 speed manual 'box, manual choke, single speed wipers and glow-worm headlights. I remember the reg, JVK 910D but can't find any record, so must have been scrapped a long time ago. Happy days and I hope you get this one back on the road.
If you take one of those new orange pads to where they sell paints they can sell you a coarse and a medium pad. That is what is wrong you have a fine pad.
A SUPER Imp no less! Did they all have 2 doors? Have got the rear bumper bar? Were they a rear engined 850CC? Were they all made in Scotland? My grandmother on my mother's side had a little grey one with red interior in Queensland, north east Australia.
I see that you IMP has suffered the problem that every un-vented garage has and that is the dreaded condensation measils! Has it gone into the metal and caused the surface to rust? Or did it only break the top surface? The quality of the paint appears to be still there but a clear coat would be recomended to keep that look in a stable condition! For the front bumper use coke and cooking tin foil to bring it back to original!
