Building the most expensive, heavily fortified defensive line in human history, only for the enemy to literally just walk around it. A 10/10 financial investment!

This is great. I wish I'd had these when I taught history to Jr high and high school.

This is actually a very good representation of just how out of touch the French military military command was at the start of the invasion and everything. The problem with France, especially the upper echelon during the start of World War II is they automatically assumed that it was going to be just like a repeat of the first world war. Now granted most countries thought this as well. However, there were very enterprising and forward thinking individuals in both countries like Germany, Britain and other nations that were very, very adamant that this wasn’t going to be the case. In fact, I don’t remember his name off the top of my head, but there was this one high ranking, British officer, who basically was the guy who made one of the earliest theoretical designs on what would later on become known as blitz Creek. Unfortunately, this guy was so outside the box in his thinking that the extremely conservative members of the British military hated his guts. They hated the fact that he always went against the grain so to speak. And this is one thing that a lot of countries and a lot of people tend to not realize.

There’s a saying in the world “generals always fight the last war” meaning that military officers usually high ranking ones, always have their strategies and stuff based on experiences from when they were Frontline officers and everything if they ever were.

There’s also an unfortunate thing where soldiers, especially officers among various European diaries, tend to completely ignore the statements of lower level officers and enlisted men when they say things that are you know outside of what they would consider their usual form of thought and stuff like that.

Now one thing that I want to hammer home and I cannot stress this enough is the French military actually is much more competent than a lot of the world gives a credit for. It’s just the leadership, both military speaking and above all politically speaking, that always are giving the French a bad name. The individual French soldiers were actually extremely brave. After all many of these men went on to fight in either the free French forces or operate as resistance members over the course of the war.

Sidenote, when France was actually liberated by the allies, if you were a French civilian or anyone who worked with the Germans Lord help you.

nice and usefull series

Yo you Actually made it and it’s really good

Sergent Fournier?  Isn't that literally naming him "Sergent Corporal" (old administrator rank)?
