Heart of the Beast Review | We Were NOT Ready for This

Brad Pitt and a German Shepherd in the Alaskan wilderness sounded like a great survival movie. We weren't prepared for just how emotional Heart of the Beast would get. Don't worry, the dog survives!!!

In this spoiler-free review, we talk about Heart of the Beast, the incredible relationship between James and his former military working dog Odin, the intense wilderness survival sequences, and whether this one is actually worth seeing in theaters.

As a combat veteran living with PTSD, I (Cody) also share why James and Odin's relationship connected with me personally—and why these two feel less like a man and his dog and more like two veterans who need each other to keep going.

🎬 Back2Us Recommendation: Watch and find out!

Deep dive: I have a feeling JK Simmons is playing someone that has a more meaningful and perhaps supernatural presence.

The Art of Racing in the Rain. Great movie but a tear jerker. Looking forward to seeing this one soon.

I looked at it as a man and his dog go into nature to recover from their trauma but find that nature despite it's beauty is dangerous, cruel and unforgiving when you lose the advantages of modern technology and have just a few rudimentary tools to keep you alive. The dangers they faced in the movie is the same dangers that humans faced 20.000 years ago when they bonded with the first dogs. They had a friend to face the unfriendly and hazardous nature with. Brad PItt carrying a spear was quite symbolic and confrontation with the wolves is as primordial as it gets.

Fully agree..great summary. ..Wife and myself broke down and cried during and after. As parents of a truly incredible amazing 4yr old Mali girl.. it just got to us! This Dog really hit us both deep inside. Hello from Madrid, Spain...RIP Patton 🌈😔

A Dogs Purpose . the moment Ethan recognized Bailey . tearing up just typing this lol . Heart of the Beast was one of those . The emotions were not about death but surviving . these 2 actors , Brad and Uber really connected and it shows as they survive not only the current location but past trauma . Excellent movie

I was hoping that the J.K. Simmons character find the dog and discover Pitt alive at the end.

I Am Legend hit me the hardest. So much so that I got involved in rescue and I named my most beloved girl Samantha aka Sammie after Will Smiths dog in the movie. She completely changed the trajectory and purpose of my life and I think about her from what seems to be moment to moment since I lost her in 2021. I can’t even do it justice on here. The pain has never left me and I love and miss her forever. 💔🐶

We are seeing this Friday with kids.

Most impactful: A dog’s purpose; the end of the police chase scene. If that doesn’t get you misty eyed you are not human.

Loved this movie. I have a german Shepard so I really felt the bond between them . Oh and the cover of stand by me at the end was so beautiful. Love it.
