My husband still has his Eraserhead tee shirt from when he helped his brother make the film. He was with David when they bought the eyes for the baby. My husband helped build the sets. That was over fifty years ago!
I’m amazed that so early in his career he was able to make something so visually beautiful and emotionally disturbing. I recently saw it for the first time and was astonished and very confused. I felt like I had seen something I wasn’t supposed to see. Like something private, not meant for my eyes. Very interesting film. The use of contrast is phenomenal. I’ve been studying cinematography for animation and this was great to see.
I still cant help but laugh when I hear Lynch talk so nonchalantly about how he brought a dead cat down for the film only for it to end up getting mummified in tar lmao
