Thanks Dave ... could only add a brass drift helps with driving the pins as well as a g gramp over the side curved flanges so they don't bind on the pins as they are drifted through.
I've been using a rake and thumb for logs and brush .... but the logs can slip a bit on teh thumb/rake combo.
If you're by yourself Dave this worked well for me......
Remove all spindles from the grabber to clean and oil up the bores. Ram spindle is shorter.
Set up grabber on concrete 3 prong end to the digger. Attach the spindle through the thumb bore and grabber. Ditto for the ram spindle. Raise the boom and lift the 3 prong end over the back of a chair. Raise lower the ram to suit lining up of the pin for the end of the boom bore and the middle bores on the grabber. For the open greasy bore I used toilet paper.
Dave I was surprised how easy it slipped together once all spindles and bores were cleaned and lubed with atf fluid. Again thanks for you vid to stimulate me into action.

Hi Dave. Good video series helping your friend and also demonstrating the versatility of your mini-ex and implements.  Spring is finally here in Oregon, so I will be doing the same.

it looks like it works awesome. i got one included on my pallet, I never planned to use it because I have to remove my thumb. But after watching your video and how awesome it works, I am going to take the extra ten minutes and remove the hydraulic thumb and try this grapple out. I have 4 piles of logs ready to be made into firewood.

Not sure about the use of adjustable wrenches - they tend to round bolts/nuts. I'd recommend you get into the habit of having the right sized ring spanners instead.

Nice job there Dave. I know that grapple well and its ok for light use but not for commercial log work for many reasons. A rotator would be great for them.

Having just ordered a grapple for my mini, I found your comment about grease fittings appropriate. I'm curious about how much I can do with this verses a hydraulic thumb and a narrow bucket? I can see the need for a rotating grapple, but the additional cost might/would be staggering.

I have a thumb and find it great, easy on and off... but will this comment stay?
