Looking for the perfect V-neck knitting pattern? In this video, I’m sharing 10 beautiful V-neck sweater and tee patterns that caught my eye. From classic lightweight sweaters to fitted tees, cables, lace details, and a slightly different take on the traditional V-neck.

I’ve been on a mission to find V-necks that look crisp, polished, and flattering. I’m especially interested in lighter-weight knits that can be worn on their own, and I’m trying to move away from extremely oversized sweaters. Although a couple of gorgeous oversized options still made the list!

What’s your experience with V-neck sweaters?

Where I have problems is the trend for drop shoulders. I am heavier. To get the sweater around the bust I then have too much space under the arm. The shoulders make raising my arms and movement less comfortable. I am short so baggy sweaters swallow me up.

The v-neck that Isabell Kraemer did in the Dingley Dell pattern is perfect to me. I have knit many patterns but I always use this v-neck as a substitute.

I'm nearly finished Drops 257-17 - the first Drops pattern I've actually understood fairly quickly 😅. I spent most of yesterday failing to pick up 78 STS 😂😂😂😂, but I left it last night hopefully be ok to finish today 😊
I'm like you, I overheat really easily & the Drops pattern can be made in various combinations - I'm loving the integral I cord v neck.
I'm going to ask Drops to create this pattern in their lighter weight yarns.

Dear Lise thank you for doing this research, it’s so helpful. I swooned when I saw the Winnie Sweater, so beautiful. I saw that Anne Ventzel has a new pattern coming in September that is a V neck, also looks very beautiful!

Thanks for this roundup! I also like vneck patterns and am on the hunt for another. I made the Desert sweater in a bamboo sock yarn. It turned out beautifully and is nice to wear. I made the neckline a little tight because it was the first time I used that technique, but it still looks nice.

I'm surprised there aren't more v neck sweaters. I don't like anything touching my throat. If rather knit a scarf with the option of removing it, rather than having a high neckline. I've recently knit the Emmanuel Tee by Kolibri by Johanna from Hobbii Designs. It has an icord v neckline which turned out very well, I have plans to make this again. The pattern was free. I'm looking at the Alchemist sweater by Wool and Pine. It has a deep rib v neck. Thanks for this video.

I’m currently knitting Deep-V by Erica Knight - a deep v for the style factor and hopefully to prevent over-heating!
It’s an old style pattern knit in pieces from bottom up so I’m recalculating to knit in the round ……………

I knit the Sunday Brunch Sweater by Hiromi Nagasawa and I really enjoyed it. I was a little off gauge so I plan to re-knit it at some point. I also really want to knit the Study Session Sweater by Samantha Guerin.

The Hilpu Sweater is the best fitting garment I’ve ever knit. Absolutely recommend this pattern. I also used it as a template for modified versions, in other gauges, without the lace, as a scrap yarn project, … My changes of gauge implied calculations, which helped me immensely to understand sweater shaping to my own measurements. The pattern is written clearly, but it is NOT a beginner friendly pattern since increases happen at different rates in different places at the same time.

Thanks again, Lise. I'm a lifetime knitter and lover of boat necks. But a few skeins of merino-linen dyed by a friend inspired me to try a v neck tee. The Alchemist Tee by Wool and Pine turned out brilliantly. We're often up to 40'C here in the SE corner of BC Canada in the summer and it's cool and drapey and the neckline is crisp. Cheers.
