Thank you for speaking about the awful results of climate change. I cannot understand those people who are so oblivious of their surroundings to not see the differences in their own living area, much less the drastic changes happening in climate around the world.
From my experience arguing with people online. The majority of people who are buying poached plants are fully aware of their origin and the impact it has and are simply apathetic to the damage associated with it
Poaching is also particularly problematic when it comes to Nepenthes. Just look at Nepenthes Clipeolata. And I literally found a guy the other day talking about a Nepenthes Veitchii and saying that he's come to "accept" poaching as part of this field. These plants are going to die anyway in most people's hands, yet the (illegal) trade goes on.
Totally agree with you, great video again! Regarding poaching, there's also the impact on the wildlife that may rely on those plants to consider - and then the impact on the wildlife that relies on that wildlife - and so on!
Great video and topics, Michael. It’s good to keep raising in particular the poaching issue, as what you doing is informing people and there might be some watching you, who will think again before buying a plant which was ripped out of nature. Keep spreading the word.
Love your show! The only thing that happens to me when I admire the adaptive changes to cacti and succulents, is being blown away by the intricacies of Gods creation.
The poaching of Conophytum here in South Africa has been sickening for the last 5 or so years. Whole populations just gone. It's a great/weird experience going to check on populations that few people know of. That you have to keep things like this a secret is just sad.
Peyote are cool looking #cactus to bad it's illegal in the United States. I will still enjoy watching YouTube videos of people growing peyote #cactus. Thank you for sharing such valuable information about peyote.
I think you are absolutely right. I was just in Iceland and I got to find The only five orchids they have on The island. And it was amazing. I had a very good guide who loves orchids too, and was very willing to find them and Point them out to me. And a few other marvelous flowers I’ve never seen in my life before Growing in The tundra where it’s cold and rugged, but yet they survive.
