Ciaphas Cain (Hero of the Imperium | Astra Militarum)
A Warhammer 40K-inspired song about Commissar Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium, and perhaps the most reluctantly legendary man in the Imperium.
I recently finished For the Emperor, my first Ciaphas Cain novel, and immediately understood why this character is so beloved.
Not long afterwards, I brought Cain’s miniature to my very first game of Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition and, appropriately enough, his incredible luck seemed to follow him onto the tabletop.
At that point I knew he needed a song.
From Gravalax and Perlia to Necron tombs, Ork hordes, Chaos cults and the battlefields of the Valhallan 597th, Hero of the Imperium is my tribute to Cain, Jurgen, Amberley Vail, the 597th, and the stories that made me fall in love with the character.
🔥 Ciaphas Cain – Hero of the Imperium
This song is a little different from many of my other Warhammer tracks.
I wanted it to sound like the Imperium itself had written an impossibly grand military anthem in Cain’s honour.
While Cain himself quietly insists that none of this is quite how he remembers it.
And somewhere between the propaganda, the impossible luck and Amberley’s editorial notes, perhaps the truth begins to show through.
🎙 A Note on Ciaphas Cain’s Pronunciation
I know the pronunciation of “Ciaphas” in the vocals isn’t perfect.
I spent quite a while trying different spellings and pronunciations, but the voice simply refused to give me exactly what I wanted. The final vocal lands closer to “Kai-fas”, which was ultimately the closest natural-sounding result I could get without breaking the performance entirely.
So I decided to keep the song I loved rather than sacrifice it trying to force one stubborn name.
Hopefully Cain would forgive me.
Amberley probably wouldn’t.

This track is a collaboration between Machine and Man.
Concept, narrative structure and lyrics by Hannes.
The music and vocals are generated with Suno from my lyrics, prompts and musical direction. Each song is developed across multiple generations, extensions and variations. I choose what makes the final cut, then sequence and edit the selected material, match transitions and levels, EQ and finalize the audio in Adobe Audition and Premiere Pro.
The final music video, subtitles, timing, artwork selection and visual editing are created in Premiere Pro and After Effects.
🎨 Visuals & Artwork
This video features Warhammer 40K-inspired artwork, fan-made art, and cinematic sequences.

📜 Lore & Inspiration
Inspired by the Ciaphas Cain novels by Sandy Mitchell and the wider Warhammer 40,000 universe.
The song draws from Cain’s campaigns, companions, reputation and memoirs, while also using original and composite battle scenes for musical storytelling.
This is ultimately a tribute rather than a retelling of any single book.

From Imperial Guard anthems and Space Marine hymns to Primarch sagas, character tributes and grimdark metal epics.
And somehow, while I was making all of this, the channel passed 10,000 subscribers.
That still feels completely unreal.
Thank you to everyone who has listened, commented, shared the songs, argued about the lore, suggested the next character, or simply stuck around for another nine-minute Warhammer song.
There are many more to come.

Was Ciaphas Cain truly just the luckiest coward in the Imperium...
Or was he always the Hero of the Imperium?
And which character, regiment, battle, Primarch or faction should receive a song next?

By decree of absolutely reliable Imperial record:
Commissar Ciaphas Cain has once again survived overwhelming odds, destroyed the enemies of mankind.
...and somehow dragged this channel past 10,000 subscribers.
Coincidence?
Cain would probably say yes.
The Administratum might disagree. Seriously though ,10,000 is insane. When I started making these Warhammer songs, I never expected this many people to be waiting for the next one. Thank you to everyone who listens, comments, shares them, debates the lore, and keeps coming back.
And to everyone who recommended that I finally read Ciaphas Cain...
You were right.
So, Guardsmen:
Was Cain merely blessed with truly absurd luck...
Or has Amberley been right about him all along?
Which parts of the song did you enjoy the most?
And more importantly
WHO GETS A SONG NEXT?
The Emperor Protects.
...usually.
