Mike Oldfield became an instant success when he released "Tubular Bells" in 1973, an instrumental album on which he played most of the instruments and which he had written when still a teenager. The album was a huge hit around the world.

Oldfield followed that up with a string of successful and innovative instrumental albums. In the 80s and 90s he veered more towards shorter, poppier songs, having several hits with them, but still bearing his hallmark guitar and instrumental genius.

Oldfield stands out as a master musician, instrumentalist and composer, who has made some of the most original, imaginative music of the last 50 years.

Mike Oldfield is one of the greatest musicians on this planet. I grew up with him..Albums like Tubular Bells.  Hergest ridge..Ommadawn..and many many moore. Thank you. Cheers from a finn in sweden.

the language in Clannd's song is Gaelic, the original Irish language

Clannad is an Irish band consisting of 3 siblings and 2 of their uncles.

If you want to explore music in general, Mike Oldfield’s albums are the perfect place. So much variety

You are going down a rabbit hole he has albums of 25 mins plus a side single tracks to short more normal track length albums. Fun fact the second singer was Pepsi who was a backing singer/band member of wham with Shirley who went on to do other songs with Shirley as a double act. Best place to start and you would then understand the single riff going through this is tubular bells 1973 which he wrote at 17 years old and recorded at 18 and you will immediately know the film it was used on

The languages are English, Cherokee, and Mohican. The song was used in the film "The Last of the Mohicans."

You need to listen to the original Mike Oldfield, and his rendition of Tubular bells. Clannad is the group, and this song featured prominently in the film, Last Of The Mohicans, starring Daniel Day Lewis.

this kind of guitar sound is Mike's trademark . he's a genius

FYI - you asked who put this together. The answer? Mike Oldfield. He wrote the whole thing, and on the studio version, he played most of the instruments. I recommend you listen to TB 1 and 2, plus Ommadawn. You'll get an appreciation for the genius that is Mike Oldfield. I appreciate you taking the time to review this relatively short piece (in Oldfield terms). Plus he is an absolutely amazing guitarist.

Firstly, Mike Oldfield is a genius, in terms of composing and playing of instruments. What he does is unique, which I guess is why you were wondering about the genre, Mike has his own genre called Oldfield Progressive. This performance was from the live premiere concert of his album Tubular Bells 3 and I was at this concert, it rained for the whole show, but trust me the crowd didn't care. This period of his career was more dance/chill out inspired because he had moved to Ibiza and he went to check out the local clubs, but his music is very varied. His most famous album is the original Tubular Bells from 1973 if you want more, I would suggest his most famous short vocal song, that being Moonlight Shadow,  check out the official video first

then the live on VH1 version.

Also check out Sentinel from the Live premiere concert of Tubular Bells 2 from Edinburgh Castle  in 1992 the whole concert is worth watching, but watch the songs in order as they flow into each other.

Mike is an amazing guitarist, this performance doesn't show much of what he can do,  he plays a unique classical guitar style.

You might not be saying "Christmas wonderland" if you saw The Exorcist and heard Tubular Bells as the theme of that movie. :)

Trivia - The song "I Will Find You” has a portion of the lyrics sung in Cherokee, and Mohican languages which were languages featured in the movie The Last of the Mohicans.
And great reviews as always

Period. It’s for this exact reason why I’ve always loved Clannad, and especially their song “The Golden Castle” (Caislean Óir ᚛ᚉᚙᚄᚂᚕᚅ ᚖᚏ᚜) for their deep, all-surrounding traditional meets modern vocal stylings 🩷💕

I went through a Celtic phase a few years ago. Clannad, Enya, Maire Brennan, and Loreena McKennitt were always on repeat wherever I was. :) This took me back. :)

Love clanad so beautiful haunting another realm

Well that was a treat! Two of my favourite artists in one hit. Clannad had such an atmospheric vibe, haunting and ethereal, mainly because of Maire's voice. It was the perfect match when they provided the soundtrack for an ITV series called Robin of Sherwood, and the album "Legend" that resulted is quite magical. As for Mike, well he's a genius. Recommend checking out "The Songs Of Distant Earth".

OH - MY - GOSH !! Can´´t believe it: both my musical all-time-favourites in ONE reaction-video - never seen that before !! 🥰😍
The best composer of all times (you doubt? Then check out all his stuff of his first four albums and total-mind-blowing 'Amarok'!) and the legendary irish family folk and new age group (as many still don´t know: all sibblings of famous 'Enya'!) in one video - you must be an amazing dude! 😘
If you want to know anything about them both, just ask me - know probably nearly all about them as hardcore fan! Best wishes and greetings from Berlin, Germany! Michael

RIP Maire Brennan (Clannad ) 13th April 2026. She had a beautiful voice.

Mike Oldfield's music has always been in this style. His albums in order are - Tubular Bells 1973, Hergest Ridge 1974, Ommadawn 1975, Incantations 1978 ------ Return to Ommadawn 2017.
