Chetan really knocked this one out. Thank you for commissioning it for the community.

Periodic reminder of how much I appreciate that everything on this channel is made by people. The crypts render is gorgeous!

Bran the Builder built the crypts and the castle came up later. So for at least the first few generations they either had a wooden hold, or as I like to imagine, they lived in the upper crypts. Kinda like a wolf den.

This makes a lot of sense! The most shocking thing to find in a crypt would be something not quite dead

The O.G Stark Statues are not made of stone but instead carved out of petrified weirwood roots ...🤯🤯🤯

i would assume the reason that the greenseers turn to stone is because they stop reccieving blood. Which means that at least some of the  greenseers under Winterfell might still be alive. That is, unless the transition from true human sacrifice to blood from a sword wasn't enough to sustain them

I never get tired of listening to Crypts of Winterfell vids!

Just wanted to say I've watched your content for a long time, and your videos were probably one of the first that made me analyze the symbolism, setting and worldbuiilding of the stories I work on. I've recently started a game development role, and deep dive videos like what you do are helping motivate me to look at my games from a new angle. Keep up the good work my friend!

And as he sat by the dark pool, embraced in the arms of the weirwood's gnarled roots, he heard a whispering voice from above him. A faint voice, but clear, born in the breath of the wind and the rustling of the red leaves that fanned his face. The voice of a Greenseer, hundreds, maybe thousands of years old, maybe as old as the first greenseer himself, whispering, as it had for as long as any living man could remember. "George," it whispered, urgently, yet with undertones of desperation and sadness, "finish the books, George, finish the damned books..."

The crypt art is great. Thank you for commissioning it, David, so we can all better envision it. Your conclusions make a lot of sense, and I, for one, think you're onto something big. I'm among many who are intrigued by Winterfell, its crypts, its weirwood, and the Starks, whose long history dates back to the First Men. Thank you for this awesome video.

Oh wow. This is incredible. I can’t thank you enough, David, for creating this amazing content for us every week. The commissioned art is phenomenal…. I don’t know - you’ve had SO MANY fantastic videos lately, I can’t decide which is my favorite but you’ve definitely got my gears turning thinking about all of this… especially the Stark Crypts. Another exceptional video. You’ve outdone yourself yet again.

David is a content master , my goodness!!!!

Yay for the commissioned Crypts art !!

I always found it so odd how GRRM just hand-waves away that the lower levels of the crypts are inaccessible because of a cave in and just brushes past the subject. So you're telling me that no Stark in the last however many *centuries* has been curious enough about what's down there to start chipping away at the rubble and excavating all the fallen debris? If I were a Stark, and had the means, you bet I would undertake a mission to make the lower levels accessible again. Who knows what could be down there, even for people in-universe who don't think there are any magical shenanigans going on. There could be Valyrian steel (or, contemporaneously, dragonsteel) weapons or armor; the original sword Ice; ancient scrolls, books, and artifacts; vast riches; etc. The Starks are sitting on a proverbial gold mine and don't care.

Wdym they aren‘t used as a refuge while a bunch of icy necromancers and their undead armies approach?

I was skeptical of the commissioned Westeros pieces at first, but Chetan has done a great job, and the Hightower has been a welcome visual in many videos. I look forward to exploring his interpretation of the Crypts in this video. I also look forward to other artistic renderings of Westeros in 3d (or is it 4d when it's a flythrough like these are?)

Keep it up David and Chetan. Great content deserves a great audience. Show your support, people!

My pet theory is that a Stark was the first sacrifice to the Winterfell heart tree and that is why 'there must always be a Stark in Winterfell'.

I always figured that if you go far enough down there, you just end up in a completely different series.

The 3D Art was cool!

If the really old greenseers turn into the tree but are still some way alive, then perhaps their face can appear in the side of the tree, and be able to see and move and even talk. Or maybe it is a remote projection of the face of the greenseer sitting deep below.
