The Cicada is funny because for most mechs getting an XL engine makes them less durable. For the Cicada it allows the mech to basically double its armor and maybe add a bit of firepower.

The cicada has the same disease as the charger. In order to make it good, you must make it expensive. But in order for a scout to be useful it must be expendable.

I've always been torn on the Cicada. In essence it's just two Locusts in a trenchcoat – and I love the Locust, so just having more Locust on hand is great. But on the other hand it really is just two Locusts in a trenchcoat – and two regular Locusts will generally do more for you and cost less credits.

The Cicada variants that try to compete with the locust tend to be underwhelming, but the ones that ask "What can this platform do that the locust can't?" often result in some terrifying mission profiles. Those ERPPC and HPPC variants are extremely rough to go up against especially for elements that aren't expecting something that can move so fast to deal so much damage.

A lot of cicadas leave a lot of armour to be desired. A surprising number of cicadas bolt on the armour using XL-engine weight savings and those are all decent. All except the CDA-4A.
That thing scares me.

I think Cicadas have a disarmingly adorable profile due to their... well-rounded shape. Chubby little chonkers that often come with a zappy surprise.

The Cicada variants that make it into a fast sniper are quite honestly extremely terrifying. A cicada, like its namesake, is most effective at being annoying. Ideally some cicadas could pelt away at heavier units while forcing their escorts to engage, allowing other light elements to finish the job while it shoots and scoots.

With that big cockpit, the cicada probably would allow a mech warrior to remain effective much longer then other scout mechs, making it good for long range, deep recce. So a bit like the Ostscout, it’s actually quite good, just not in open battle.

Playing the BTA 3062 mod for Battletech(2018) I had a moment with one of my Cicadas that was straight out of Jurassic park. "Oh I though you were one of your bigger cousins you're not so scary." Eight acid Srms to the cockpit and i'm hauling off MOST of a Crab
