Arguments of which game is better/worse aside, both Melee and Brawl were both huge parts of my gaming childhood without a doubt.:)

Just watched this after getting absolutely decimated in ultimate by my buddy. I played melee first but I really have a spot in my heart for brawl. Me and my neighbor used to play brawl every day after school, beating the sub space emissary together is definitely a highlighted memory I haven’t forgotten even though it’s been over 10 years.

Great video man.

Just for the record, Mewtwo and Roy were not replaced by Lucario and Ike respectively. They were planned for the game which you can see for yourself by looking at the hacked data files. Sonic's late inclusion is the reason why they were not finished in time.

Great video! Just want to comment on one thing though. Brawl isn't some horrible game competitively, it's just different. While it doesn't have L-Canceling or Wavedashing like Melee, it has its own techniques, like DACUS and momentum cancelling. While it's nowhere near as fast as Melee, it has a very deep neutral game, that even Melee fails to match (my opinion, of course). Many Smash 4 and Ultimate players even miss aspects of Brawl's competitive play, as it was competent in its own right, and the biggest Smash game for a long time in tournaments (2008-2013). And while tripping is really bad and not something I'll defend, modern day Brawl tournaments actually mod it out.

However, I still think the Yin and Yang comparison works out. Melee is a super fast game with devastating punishes. Brawl is a methodical game, with deep neutral. Even in terms of single player content, Adventure Mode is quick fun, albeit a bit too short. Subspace is basically the opposite, being an adventure a bit too long. Brawl and Melee are definitely one and two on my favorite Smash games list (despite everything I've said to defend Brawl, I actually do prefer Melee by a hair). Also, Brawl's artstyle is great, and this is a hill I'm absolutely going to die on!

Brawl is my first and favorite game I really like Melee but Brawl is just neater. Also what is your switch friend code if you wanna play smash ultimate and great vid.

Great video. Your voice kinda sounds like video game dunkey.

THANK YOU for having a sensible point of view on Subspace Emissary. You even grew up with Brawl and played it ad nauseam, and despite that you laid it out perfectly. Subspace's strongest part were the cutscenes, which were truly great and fun, but the gameplay was pretty generic and it was entirely way too long. Also kudoz for recognizing the poor artstyle and detailing why it had that appearance. I know Sakurai in a design spec specifically said he wanted to try to bridge the Nintendo designs with the more mature designs of humanoid characters.
