In this episode of Kitchen Gadget Testing, I'm putting five more gadgets through their paces, including a beer bottle mortar, a ceramic cheese baker, a clever strawberry huller, a cat-shaped coaster and a silicone bread roll maker. Some were brilliant, some were disappointing, and one completely blew me away.

That beer mortar was working by clipping the lid with the lever as it passes through, if it was a better size for more bottles i'd probably like it more!

Im going to take a wild guess that the person who had that fondue pot explode took it out of the refrigerator and set it straight on the tea light. Nothing likes changing temperatures that fast.

Just a note about Kitchenaid mixer....you can get a glass bowl for it and tons of nifty attachments (pasta maker, meat grinder, sausage maker, ice cream churn to name a few).

I always appreciate you reminding people that these things could help people with disabilities. I have a visual disability myself but I myself sometimes don’t consider that when looking at this stuff and you never know how someone might make use of something you consider useless. You are such a great guy Barry.

I think the bread rolls in the muffin tray puffed up more because the metal gets hot and cooks the edges quicker causing it to rise more whereas the silicone doesn’t get that hot.

With the whole ice in the oven while baking thing. You want your oven preheated already. preferably a little hotter than you want to bake at because it will cool the oven off a bit when you put the ice in. The idea is to get a "flash" of steam all at once that will create an elastic crust on the outside. It helps with making the crust shiny and also reduces cracking in the crust. You put the dough and the ice in at the same time in a hotter oven, then turn the oven down.
Edit- you see how your dinner rolls have a bit of an "ashy" look to them? Thats because the steam didn't get a good flash in the oven. More steam from the ice will make it glossy, almost like an egg wash.
