My city has “climbing switches”,temporary switches laid on top of the rails were the tram “climbs up” the switch ,passes over and descends onto the track. No big issue… a cheap and efficient setup.

Riverside!!!!!!! My grandparents lived in Westborough and during family vacations we'd drive to Riverside to take the light rail to Boston because the commuter rail was too infrequent or wasn't running that day.  There was a really good record store in Natick called Deja Vu Records that looks like it's still there.  I had no idea those two tracks connected at one point.

Fun fact: the Green Line's AnsaldoBreda Type 8 cars use the same traction control as the New York City Subway's R142A cars (Adtranz/Bombardier 1508C), which is why they have that signature whine.

Love all the Boston vids! Feel like so few transit / urbanist youtubers (sans Miles in Transit) do Boston videos leading to a worse perception than reality in online spaces due to the classic New England cynicism and constant complaining. Its like the 4-6th best system in the country!

Oh Riverside! I've been there. When driving in from Albany, it's the first station on the subway network you come to. Parked there to see a game at Fenway. But I made a mistake, I didn't realize it was the same day as the Boston Marathon.... that was... ah... not fun.

The MBTA Green Line introduced the Gen 1 Standard Light Rail Vehicles (SLRVs), built by Boeing-Vertol, into revenue service on December 30, 1976 on the D-Line running 50~55 mph thru Newton & Chestnut Hill.

wish they would reuse more old trolley and streetcar tunnels. In Chicago 2/3 of them have the room for a modern subway and regrading wouldn't have been terrible considering they had already done it before.

The school above the station reminds me of Harlem-148th Street aka Lenox Terminal on the NYC Subway's IRT Lenox Avenue Line!

The station was first proposed in 1940 as part of a possible extension of the line to the Bronx along the northern portion of the former IRT Ninth Avenue Line, in turn connecting to the Jerome Avenue Line at 167th Street. The station eventually opened in 1968 to better serve the local area due to unreliable bus and trolley service. 145th Street to the south was the original terminus of the line and was supposed to be closed as a result of its opening, but it stayed open due to community opposition, under the condition only those going southbound can access the station's platforms as you cannot board northbound since the northbound platform is for disembarking passengers only. What's now the Frederick Douglass Academy was built over the station! So the station is AT-GRADE, even though it feels like it's underground! On top of this, the station was built WITHIN a yard! A yard with currently 22 tracks. Two tracks were taken from the Lenox Yard for use as the station. The yard first opened in 1904 as the Lenox Avenue Shops, the first overhaul shop for the IRT. The transit authority chose to abandon the Lenox Avenue Shops in the late 1950s in favor of IRT and IND repairs being done at the 207th Street Shops. Thus, they downsized, and the land was sold to a developer. In the 1960s, what would become the Frederick Douglass Academy and the Esplanade Gardens apartment complex were constructed on pilotis above the formerly open-air yard
