I actually cheered out loud seeing the cta as A tier. Love her. We deserve better but i still love her

After this, can you rank every Light Rail system in the states?

Every U.S commuter rail ranking when?

Hot take - if the Detroit people mover is a metro, then the JFK AirTrain is also a metro.

I’ll just leave it at that 😎

Also, the shade on Metro by T Mobile. 🤣

Lived in NYC 30 years...you can go anywhere on the MTA  .  It's a great system

Correction: Baltimore has five-eighths of a metro line.

The DC Metro has the best door chime “Step back, doors closing” that’s iconic for the city!

Growing up in the Atlanta area then living in NYC for a decade made me too critical of MARTA.  MARTA just can't be the type of rail that NYC is that can take you to most corners of the city, but it is great for park and ride and it's clutch for getting you to the airport and downtown arenas.  MARTA still has tons of potential.  It has good bones, 48 miles of track crossing the city.

LA is improving dramatically

To put PATH in the the same tier as SIRR is definitely a hot take. I know there’s not much love for the PATH tubes especially from visitors to NYC who are only riding on the MTA, but for a tiny system dwarfed by the larger NYC subway, it ranks 5th or 6th in the U.S. by weekday ridership, and is the only 24 hour system besides NYC’s. Its Hoboken station may be the only terminal in the U.S. that has connections to a subway, commuter rail, light rail, buses, AND ferry. Not bad for a system with only four routes.

I'm so proud of MARTA to have made B Tier while literally never having had one single penny of funding from its own state government. One day we'll let it grow up and the great design of its core infrastructure will actually shine. Sadly the new trainsets, as cool as they are, can't fix the fact that Atlanta's growth was rather intentionally directed as far away from MARTA as possible, ei in outlying suburbs and in areas not served by it like the Howell Mill and Northside Drive corridor.
Great video and I don't disagree with any rankings. Very evenhanded.

I’m a Philadelphian who grew up in and still lives in the city. As much as I love the Parkway, I wish the city would’ve fully built out the subway system envisioned in the 1913 Taylor Plan (worth a look if you’ve never seen it) when it had the resources to do so. Philly would’ve undoubtedly had the 2nd best subway system in the US had the plan been fully realized. Unfortunately, World War I happened, the city prioritized building the Parkway, and the city completely squandered the remaining money on the 1926 Sesquicentennial.

So glad to see Bart in the A tier, I always hear it get criticized but I love it

Light rail should be included. Especially when the green line in Boston is a hydrid of light rail and subway.

Im from Berkeley and I say BART is super useful to travel within the greater Oakland area

I’d put forward the argument that BART deserves an S tier. It’s pretty awesome for what it is and what they’re working with

Building where it's easiest instead of most useful is a theme in Baltimore. They did the same thing with the light rail. That Detroit one is not a metro but if you're going to call it that, it should definitely be alone in E tier.

Detroit People Mover is closer to an amusement park ride than an actual transportation system. Anywhere that it goes, you could walk in about the same amount of time. At least it's free now, though. Back when you had to pay, most of the ticket machines were broken.

The Tren Urbano Extension has recently opened up again. As Tren Urbano won a $10 Million BUILD grant from the federal government to study an extension to both Old San Juan and the Airport. This is massive because for the first time since the late 90s and early 2000s, the federal government has shown interest in providing funds to complete an extension if seen viable. Very exciting!!
