Holy crap, it's back to haunt me again. I was Nate, the author of this pasta back in 2015.
Now, at the time of writing this, I was an edgy 14-year-old with a hyperfixation on cancelled and unreleased games, mainly Sonic X-Treme because I was fascinated by how things might or might not have changed for Sega should it have been finished. This was my first ever serious attempt at writing, as you can likely tell.
Since then, I've grown up, my love for beta/scrapped games has only gotten more fervent, I've gone by a different name, and when I'm not working I'm cosplaying obscure characters and (trying to!) write more things.
I have a soft spot for this time in my life - and for the whole Sonic X-Treme story IRL - and to see my desperate attempt to get Mutahar to notice me keep sticking around after a decade is still sweet. I know the awkward edgelord teen I was would have a huge smile on his face. Him and his little obsession with that smug, Generation 5 Grass Pokemon.
Thanks for digging this up, Peter. I may or may not have some behind-the-scenes things I can share with you should you be interested ;D
Seriously, thank you so much, Peter. This means the world to me. -Amie (Formerly Nate)
I definitely think it's interesting in that it's not entirely unbelievable at all.
But I can't say many actually scare me so I prefer atmosphere and creepy/spooky and the like over straight up 'scares'. I mean the straight up 'scares' ones can also have that, but without that for me many end up weirdly funny if I'm being honest. (Eh enjoyment is enjoyment and I'm not trying to say anything bad about authors or even their stories, just their effect on me.)
...This feels very much like an actual game. Like something sega would have made in the late 2000s as a sick and twisted april fools game, where the goal of the game was to simply reach the end... and fix itself. Not genuinely scary but also just as ominous made specifically to mystify a player if it's worth it. But not to the point it isn't impossible just daunting.
Is the background footage your first time playing Sonic Mania? Because watching you fight that buzz saw boss was rough. All you have to do is let the saws break the brown boxes then you can attack him.
The overall believability of the creepypasta just makes the 'unnerving' parts of it slightly off-putting. A pretty unique atmosphere that I haven't seen in anything else, at least intentionally. Odd how Sonic creepypastas are so peak when they aren't trying to be the next Sonic.exe
Speaking of Sega. I'm curious if there's a possibility of a Yakuza CreepyPasta. Maybe if there isn't a good one. One could be made about a Yakuza Dead Souls Alternate Ending.
One of the few cases a Video Game CreepyPasta can work like the HuniePop one I liked.
